Boston should be saving their pennies - they NEED Pujols if they're going to compete in the AL East at any point in this decade.

Brewers sweep Pirates scoring 36 runs to Pirates 1. I know it is the Pirates and they aren't good but that is impressive.

The last game of that series was won 20-0. Last night the two teams met again for a second series, and the Brewers scored 17. Over four games, the Brewers have outscored the Pirates 53-4, and twice destroyed Zach Duke.

After that ugly series against the Cubs, the Brewers must have been thrilled to see Pittsburgh again...

if the red sox dont get Pujols, they will have a chance at Prince Fielder. He is looking to strike a big contract, similar to Howard. Brewers can't afford it nor should they. He could be Mo Vaughn No.2 only way better.

Boras is Fielder's agent, so an extension for him is unlikely. Let's not forget the other free agent 1B of '11, Adrian Gonzalez. If the Red Sox can't land Gonzalez, they're sure to be wet for Fielder.

Cards have GOT to sign him, even if it means selling half of Missouri to Kansas.

really old? I think the ageless wonder Jamie ("Walken") Moyer might skew the average......what ARE the averages anyway? anyone know the average team age/ rank???

Looking at their starting lineup:

C Carlos Ruiz 31

1B Ryan Howard 30

2B Chase Utley 31

SS Jimmy Rollins 31

3B Placido Polanco 34 (And under contract for 3 years. Yikes.)

LF Raul Ibanez 38

CF Shane Victorino 29

RF Jayson Werth 31

That's really old as far as a long term offensive core goes. That being said, they've got a lot of money coming off the books soon, and as an organizational strategy, waiting to call guys up until they are like 25 and ready to kill people at the big league level (like they did with guys like Utley, Howard, and to a lesser extent Werth and Victorino) is pretty smart.

I've always liked Ibanez, but I'm hoping that the Phils trade him in the offseason to clear room for Dominic Brown and to have money to keep Werth. Ibanez has one more season on contract after this one, but I don't know if he has any kind of trade clause. He'll be valuable short-term DH material if he puts up decent numbers again this year.

This.

By the end of his career, Pujols will rank near the top of the list of the greatest baseball players of all time. The Cards have to do whatever it takes to keep him in St. Louis.

While I can, I am going to write the words "the first-place New York Mets." God, that felt nice.

Worst idea ever. I hate the DH.

And plus the game should not matter. who cares if it ends in a tie?

It's going to start with this, then eventually it will be all DH all the time and maybe interleague at all times (or a uniform league). Pitchers are far too valuable to let them to continue to be subjected to hitting and running the bases. At some point the NL will have the weigh that value over the cost of another slugger. I'm not a proponet (or opponet) of this, but it's headed that way in the due course of the business of baseball.

isn't that sad really? It all comes down to money. It is to the point teams pay guys so much they don't want them to get hurt, which is protecting their investment, and I see that, but it really affects the integrity of the game. what is next not allowing slides cause guys might break a finger?

It is a game, there are risks.
