calvino
The White Sox (esp. the pitching) are finally showing something. Hopefully they keep it going when they start up with AL again.
Duck-Billed Catechist
The White Sox signed their 1st round pick, Chris Sale, who hopes to be a September callup:http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/06/chris-sale-white-sox-reach-agreement.html Their current LOOGY is having a historically bad season:http://www.baseball-reference.com/play-index/shareit/yB88b

bobbob1313
Marlins just fired the manager, bench coach and hitting coach. That's a bit unexpected. We've been underperforming, but jeez.

Smokestack Joe
i happened to think Gonzalez is one of the better managers. But I could be wrong, but he was sent off because he and Hanley dont get along, and i guess the Marlins want to keep Hanley.
bobbob1313
Well, the team tried to fire him last October and ended up giving him a shot, but the ownership thinks they are underperforming and a change needed to be made. They may be right, though our bullpen is dreadful as well, and that's not Fredi's fault. He'll be in Atlanta next year, I think.

u2roolz
Congrats to Yovani Gallardo (Milwaukee) on getting a CG with 12 Ks and 5 Hits. Edit: He's actually tied for 3rd for Strikeout Leaders in the NL (obviously). 1. Lincecum 113. 2. Haren 109 3. Kershaw/Gallardo 103 Congrats to the White Sox for their 9th straight victory and turning themselves into possible buyers (instead of sellers as noted by the MLB writers) at the trade deadline. Floyd, Putz, & Jenks combine for 2 Hitter against Atlanta. Could just be facing the NL that accounted for 9 straight?
Lammycat
Anybody else catch the BOS/COL game last night? What an exciting game, regardless that BOS lost. Watching Jimenez pitch this season has been a treat and his first 3 innings were flawless. The Sox were the first team to get to him this year and he was chased early from the game (to a standing ovation, nonetheless). The game had all sorts of twists and turns with that rat-bastard Giambi hitting a 2-run walk-off homer off of Papelbon, who got taken deep moments earlier to have the game tied up. A lot of guys would have skipped a start and waited to perform at full strength, but not Ubaldo. He was having none of it, but it may be why he tanked out so early.

He really dropped off (velocity, which was consistently hitting 100 mph, and location) after the 3rd inning. Lackey, on the other hand, improved markedly after the 4th inning. The Inside of Outside
Bobby Valentine is comingThere are very few people in the world who I have a visceral, negative reaction to when I see/hear them on TV or in person, and Bobby V is one of them. The word "idiot" comes to mind when I hear him speak.

The word "idiot" comes to mind when I hear him speak.I've never liked Valentine either, but he may just be the asshole the Marlins need right now. He certainly fits right in with upper management/ownership. He'd also be a good fit with the Mets, even though, for the most part, I also don't like clubs recycling their own former managers. Everybody has a place where their personality would be a positive, and Bobby V is real good at diverting attention onto himself by being a hee-hawing jackass. The Marlins and Mets both need managers to take the pressure off the players and Bobby V can do just that by smiling at the camera. I am glad, however, that Bobby Valentine has taken his name out of consideration for the Orioles job. Those guys need pressure on them to perform, which is why the disciplinarian Buck Schowlalter is the leading candidate so far. The Orioles are about to start asking for permission to interview other teams' personel. I'm still pulling for the recently fired former Royals' manager Trey Hillman, though I wouldn't mind another former Royals' skipper, Tony Pena.
Lammycat
Valentine is married to Ralph Branca's daughter. That's pretty much all I've got. I don't mind his insights on the game, either.
The High Heat
The Phils have OF Dominic Brown in AA. There are some who believe he should be in AAA, if not Philly.XM is reporting Brown has been promoted to AAA.I have this fantasy about the Yanks taking on Raul Ibanez in about a month to replace Nick Johnson, Brown playing LF in Philly the rest of the way, and Werth getting an extension. Where the fuck is Santa Claus when you need (want) him?
u2roolz
Edwin Jackson 149 pitchesNo HitterAgainst his former team Didn't the Tigers trade him last year? bobbob1313
It's incredible that it's happened to the rays three times in two season. I'm sure baseball prospectus is already on the case to judge the statistical probability of that happening.
