What brilliant photo's! Love the pic of Steve Diggle (think I got his name right) of the Buzzcocks best. There is a genuine "caught in the act" sense about it. Would have loved to have seen this show. Their first two albums are ace. (On a side-note, check out the current Seattle band, the Cute Lepers who are really good and owe a big debt to them and other more melodic punk/new wave bands.)

My first favourite show was LCD Soundsystem at the Crystal Ballroom in Portland in May. Amazing show - felt more like a magic night at a great club than anything else. Best arena show - The Gorillaz at Key Arena in Seattle. As they have said they won't tour this version of the band ever again I feel really lucky. Half of the Clash, Bobby Womack, De La Soul, a Syrian/American orchestra and so many other talented (I stopped counting at thirty) musicians on stage and fantastic visuals courtesy of the cartoons projected above the band as well. And best of all Damon Albarn giving it all and reveling in the the response of the crowd. Notable mention to Wilco in Victoria, B.C. in February. Coincided with the start of the Winter Olympics in Vancouver so our opening act was the opening ceremony on telly before a 5 minute stroll to the theatre. Band were great as always in a very intimate venue and at approximately 6 or 7 encores and well over two hours in length I finally got to hear "Red Eyed and Blue" and "I Got You" for the first time.

TP -- your pix are the best. You really capture the energy.

:thumbup Seconded.

My best music experience of 2010 was attending a Jeff Tweedy LRS in July. After that, these were my five favorite shows:

1. Eels [opener: Jesca Hoop], October 2 at the Pabst in Milwaukee

2. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings [The Heavy], May 22 at the Pabst in Milwaukee

3. The New Pornographers [The Dodos; The Dutchess and the Duke], June 12 at the Pabst in Milwaukee

4. The National [The Antlers], August 4 at the Riverside in Milwaukee

5. Heartless Bastards [Peter Wolf Crier; The Builders and the Butchers], July 26 at Turner Hall in Milwaukee

The worst was probably The Gaslight Anthem (September 18), but only because the sound was atrocious and it was at The Rave, one of the suckiest venues in Milwaukee.

Best show I went to by far was the Black Crowes at the Chicago Theater in August.

Second place was probably The National in Columbus.

Third place was a tie between the Avi Buffalo/Blitzen Trapper show in Indy and the Dr. Dog show at The Vid.

Very good year for shows. Not quite as good as the prior year, but still very enjoyable.

everyone else

Dear God was that mindblowing. Never seen anything like it. No doubt the greatest rock show in years. Pretty much considered genius and a "must do" by anyone who reviewed it.

This was a ridiculous show. Hard to compare it to anything else. It was a great way to end my concert-going year!

There is a great DVD of the show floating around on DIME. Don't watch it if you have yet to go see the show live and are planning on it. It's better to have it as a surprise live.

Nice list!

Aside: I found the text very difficult to read on your blog post. I quit trying to make out what it said and just looked at the pics.
