imsjry
That would have been a great show to see, where(venue) did they play? The Smiths played the Aragon and I was 15 so I didn't know bad that venue really is. I remember the entire floor had rows of seats and the minute the band hit the stage, everyone (in complete orderly fashion) took their seat and passed it to the back. Walking out after and seeing that pile of hundreds of chairs was just awesome. Setlist is here....just amazing:http://www.setlist.f...l-3bd7d43c.html
cryptique
The J Geils Band - 10th Anniversay concert at the New York Academy of Music 1977Forgot to mention these guys. The full original lineup (minus Stephen Jo Bladd) played a couple of shows in Detroit two years ago, and I made sure I got tickets.
choo-choo-charlie
Violent Femmes (these guys are done, right?) They were on the bill opening for Blues Traveler on July 4th, 2007. I recall everyone around us being very bored until they pulled out "Blister in the Sun" at the very end of the setlist, and then everyone went nuts.

Oil Can Boyd
Feelies (mid/late-80's lineup)That's the same lineup that's playing some shows and putting out an album in April.I would have loved to see the band when Anton Fier was the drummer ...
Lammycat
That's just wrong. They have so many great songs. But then again, it was a Blues Traveler show. What would you expect? They are, for all intents/purposes, a one-hit wonder band. Highly overrated band, too, imo (Violent Femmes). They've opened for the GD before, as well. I'm guessing the crowd gave them a similar reaction.
Lammycat
Maybe not "highly," but definitely overrated.

They've opened for the GD before, as well. I'm guessing the crowd gave them a similar reaction. That whole first album is badass. Most of the rest of their output is either spotty or terrible. I would have loved to see the band when Anton Fier was the drummer ... Me too! And speaking of Anton Fier, I just got this in my inbox this morning (sorry, didn't know where else this info might fit): From the Downtown Music Gallery weekly email: A Message and solicitation from our very great friend Anton Fier "We wish to raise funds for the production of a 10-12 song recording of Kevn Kinney (Drivin N Cryin) and Anton Fier (The Golden Palominos). i've known kevn kinney since 1987. we first worked together when i produced his band, drivin' n cryin's second album, "whisper tames the lion." i also produced his band's most recent album "(whatever happened to) the great american bubble factory". i consider him a great artist and a good friend.a little more than two years ago we started getting together in my basement rehearsal space/home to play music just for the fun of it....it was there that these songs we had been jamming on in my basement became tighter and more developed. i then had the bright idea that we should make a record of the best of these tunes.....i thought it was something special.....something unlike anything else that was going on at the time. we started pouring our own money into it....thinking that somewhere along the way a record company would pick it up and bail us out.......i forgot that the world had changed....the music business as i knew it no longer existed.......and then we ran out of money.....with the record about 80% completed..... between kevn and myself we've got about 18k of our own money tied up in this great unfinished record.....and if kevn and i had enough money to finish it ourselves we wouldn't be here...... but here we are.....and that's where you come in (if you so choose)........we need appx. $10,000 to finish the recording, mixing, mastering, and manufacturing of a great record..Apart from kevn and i we have andy hess on the fender bass. the incredible tony scherr on slide guitar (and some acoustic guitar too). this is the core unit. there's a lot of guests too..... chris masterson (son volt), eleanor whitmore (steve earle), aaron lee tasjian (the madison square gardeners), leslie mendelsohn, and many others.. it's kind of like a kevn kinney solo record produced by me in a golden palominos context.. in fact it is.. kevn kinney & the golden palominos: a good country mile.. thanks for your time. (P.S.- the mininum pledge is just $1.00) To read the complete story, hear music, and find out the details of how you can help bring this project to fruition, click [or cut and paste] this link:
choo-choo-charlie
That's just wrong. They have so many great songs. But then again, it was a Blues Traveler show. The Blues Traveler set, as a whole, was tough to get through. I went with my wife and a friend while we were taking a week at my wife's grandparents' place in Colorado...thought it might just be a fun atmosphere to be at Red Rocks on Independence Day. Knowing they're jammy, I expected some drawn-out tunes during the show, but some of them just never seemed to end.

AJ673
The Ramones... Montreal - Metropolis 1992? I had never been to a concert before and couldn't understand why we weren't trying to get closer to the stage. When the set started, there was a total rush to the stage like nothing I have experienced before or since. These big beefy punk guys with nose rings and tattoos were coming back with bloody noses. My first experience with a mosh pit - intense!
cryptique
These big beefy punk guys with nose rings and tattoos were coming back with bloody noses. My first experience with a mosh pit - intense! I nearly died in the pit at a Jesus & Mary Chain show at the Brixton Academy in '88. And I'm as big and beefy as they come. Slight miscalculation on my part when I decided to go down front.

lost highway
Maybe not "highly," but definitely overrated. Interesting, I feel like they don't get the credit they deserve. They are looked at as "that Blister in the Sun band". I see them in this continuum that started with the Velvets, took an interesting turn with the Modern Lovers and wound up with the Violent Femmes. Songs like Add it Up and Gone Daddy Gone are just so cool. Some bands become so huge and only expose one of their dimensions in the process. It then becomes incredibly unpopular to have an authentic interest in them. I always think that it's amazing that Stone Temple Pilots actually put out a great record. Like being a Violent Femmes fan it seems like that is not a very cool thing to admit. I have no idea if they were a good live band though.
tinnitus photography
i only saw the Femmes once (sometime in college, maybe '87?) and it was a very good show. first time i'd ever seen a band line up straight across the stage w/ Victor in the middle.
