parisisstale
Anyone else think so. I just find it interesting that three artists i have a lot of respect for all put out a quality recording within a few months of each other after imo quite a few years of hit-or-miss outputs. Kudos to Beck as well.
bleedorange
I actually didn't like either Malkmus's or Moore's new albums. But that's just me. Verdict is still out on Tweedy.
LouieB
The only thing I can say for certain about Thurston Moore's new album is that it is kind of clever that he put vinyl surface noise on one side of his new LPs. I think it is put there intentionally because the other three sides don't have it. His new album is pleasent enough. LouieB
jff
Haven't heard the Thurston, but I really like the Malkmus and everything I've heard from the new Wilco. This has been a GREAT year for new music.
Vacant Horizon
Haven't heard the Thurston, but I really like the Malkmus and everything I've heard from the new Wilco. This has been a GREAT year for new music. well said. not a huge sonic youth fan, but may check out this record.
lost highway
All three awesome. I think people who make cracks about creative people drying up as they get older, or more adjusted, are clearly not creative themselves. On a similar note, Tom Waits is still making cool stuff. jff
On a similar note, Tom Waits is still making cool stuff. The little bit of what I've heard from his new one is the best stuff I've heard from him in years. Really looking forward to that one. Not sure why they were promioting the shit out of it a month ago when it's still not coming out until a month from now, and now the promotion seems to have dried up. Bart
I used to love Pavement/Malk, but after a couple of listens to his new album I've sort of forgotten about it. The one song that stuck with me reminded me of Wowie Zowie era Pavement, which was great, but reminded me of "what might have been." To me it seems each one of his solo records is worse than the last.
Moss
At this point, I prefer Real emotional trash to the new one but I still really like it.
Sandoz
I'm always fascinated by each individual's response to a record. I am 110% obsessed with Mirror Traffic! From beginning to end. As amazing as Wowee or Crooked Rain to me.
Bart
Interesting! I"ll give it another try or 2, but right now I have to force myself to listen to it instead of not being able to wait to listen to it.
TLF18
loved Real Emotional Trash, i like Mirror Traffic but so far not nearly as much as RET. i'm a very casual malkmus fan, haven't heard everything and wasn't into pavement back in the day.
Moss
I just really liked the long jammy stuff he did on RET. Absolutely nobody plays like Malkmus, the droning, dissonant, "how can that possibly work", off kilter stuff.
double A-ron
Malk is the shit...he is just such a slacker you never know what show you will get.
Cold Captain
I liked Real Emotional Trash (especially the title track and "Out of Reaches"), but Mirror Traffic has to be Malkmus' best collection since his first solo album. It sounds like Malkmus lightened up a bit on this one and decided to have fun with it. But, yes, I would've liked to have seen a couple longer guitar solos, especially on songs like "Share the Red." Which should've been the closer, IMO.
tinnitus photography
i gotta write my review of the show tonight, but it was a great one...definitely go see him on this tour.
RaspberryJam
Saw Malkmus and co. last night in NY. Truly one of the best, most surprising concerts I've seen in years. The Jicks were amazing, a really really fun, rocking show.
Oil Can Boyd
Thurston and Kim split up. Statement from Matador: Musicians Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, married in 1984, are announcing they have separated. Sonic Youth, with both Kim and Thurston involved, will proceed with its South American tour dates in November. Plans beyond that tour are uncertain. The couple has requested respect for their personal privacy and does not wish to issue further comment.
