remphish1
I wonder if the retail will still be open Sat? What do you do if you work a typical 9-5 if you want to mail a package or buy stamps?

Hixter
I wonder if the retail will still be open Sat?The article I read said that post offices currently open on Saturday will remain open on Saturdays. My mail consists of bills, advertisements, credit card offers and pleas to refinance my VA loan; I could do without the USPS entirely.
remphish1
https://store.usps.com/store/browse/category.jsp?categoryId=catBuyStamps&categoryNavIds=catBuyStampsI am strangely old school when it comes to the mail. I buy everything under the sun online but not stamps I also like to drop off packages at physical locations..

tinnitus photography
But who will deliver my music trades and BnPs if the post office closes? UPS or FedEx?
NoJ
UPS or FedEx? As Bartleby always said....."I'd prefer not to".
calvino
But who will deliver my music trades and BnPs if the post office closes? I blame torrents for the demise of the post office. I don't think I will miss Sat. service - I believe they still will deliver packages and express mail on Saturdays, also.

Tweedling
I just read where the USPS is supposed to be revenue neutral..... I think I've figured out their problem.
KevinG
At what point will the USPS have to say "we quit."? It's sad. losing the USPS would be a bad, bad, thing. The USPS provides a service to rural areas (many of the same areas that do not have access to the internet) at the same cost as it does to cities. If mail service was privatized do think they would charge the same to deliver a letter to Bumfuck Iowa as they would to a city?

Lammycat
If the USPS folds, some wealthy and innovative person will likely just start up something similar. Maybe Ray Krok or Bam Margera or someone like that.

They would not charge the same fore Bumfuck Iowa as the do to a city. It's unfortunate but that agency or entity or whatever it's official status is has been circling the drain for some time now. Agreed the USPS needs to go under changes, but privatization would be bad for the country.
Tweedling
What the hell is wrong with you KevinG? Because I said it would cost more I'm not being nice? Gimme a break. They are losing money and I don't care if you live in NYC or on a secluded ranch in Montana, they better start charging more. If I need to ship something I always go UPS or Fed Ex. 2 well ran private shipping companies. They are dependable and the USPS is not! Just last week a friend tried to mail me my iPad charger through the post office. They weighed it charged her the postage and a week later it came back to her due to a lack of proper postage!! She only lives 5 hours from me. Can you tell me why you think privatization would be bad for the country?
Magnetized
There are certain things that wouldn't make economic sense to private industry but that we rely on to be reasonably available to ALL people in our society. Police, firefighters, well-maintained roads, basic postal service. . . . the list could go on and on. If these services were to be delivered exclusively by private industry, they would be prohibitively expensive except in high-income or densely populated areas. Having said that, it may eventually come down to people in rural areas needing to accept less frequent mail delivery than those in cities, which would be unfortunate but maybe necessary. ih8music
I've never fully understood why conservatives hate the USPS so much. It seems like they're rooting for it to fail.

So the USPS needs to be privatized because one stupid person who works there made a mistake in weighing your friend's package? I've got several stories about UPS messing up deliveries, but won't bother because they aren't indicative of anything systemic, just like your story.
