NoJ
I hate the Taste, but who am I kidding? The last time I was there the lawn crowd where I was could not see the stage and really didn't bother to pay attention to the show at all. Sounds like my experience at Blues Fest (almost) every year since 1985. Thats where the party is at!
linclink
Kinda bewildering how little people are speculating. Isn't this (the mention of a Jeff Tweedy solo album) the kind of thing that should launch a hundred VC threads? Feel free to launch that thread!!! I'm thinking folks are waiting for a more formal announcement...remember Nels mentioning the solo album (first mention of it?) in some interview that was posted here.Looking VERY forward to any & everything from Jeff- first solo album, eventual new Loose Fur, & the next Wilco album!! Analogman
It could be the album he recorded with his son.

Jcamp
Jeff sounded great playing a couple of encore songs with Scott McCaughey at The Fillmore last December. If indeed his solo shows incorporate a back-up band, I'm hoping Scott McCaughey is playing second fiddle.
TheSunCaughtFire
So the Autumn Defense have just announced for the 9th which has got me thinking about a few vacation days in Chicago (in the summer for a change). How does this work for the concerts? It is free for lawn and ticketed for something closer to the stage?

Nowadays - lawn is free - for the seating area you need to buy a ticket.I have not been to the Taste since they instituted tickets.

watchtower41
Has anyone heard any additional info on when these reserved tickets might go on-sale? I've been keeping my ears peeled on XRT for any type of announcement, but haven't heard any updates. I would guess these should go on-sale soon?
nalafej
Tickets go on sale 5/
Analogman
Jeff Tweedy plays Taste of Chicago in Grant Park on July 12th. All presale tickets (200 of the 300 closest seats) will be available through a lottery. Enter it now through Monday, 10am. Lottery entry + details belowhttp://wilcolottery.frontgatetickets.com/
nalafej
Lucinda Williams is opening!! They could do some amazing duets.
alison the wilca
By the way, unless you are in the very front of the lawn, you can't see a thing. It is fairly flat instead of slightly sloped like some venues.
bböp
This could be the debut of the Jeff solo band? Not sure if they'll be joining him for the June dates, but I guess we'll find out June 5th in Detroit...
alison the wilca
So I got selected in the lottery and bought 2 tickets ($50 each, btw). However, the tickets available were "Presale GA." The lottery note said something about the presale tickets being the best seats so I don't know how GA achieves that unless there is a separate section of front rows taped off for Presale GA vs regular GA. I'm not certain that anyone will know how this will really work until the day of but just putting it out there.
Cold as Gasoline
I put my name in but haven't heard, so I guess I didn't make the cut. Glad you were able to get in there. I'll have to take my chances when they go on sale later this week.

I didn't think about how they would set it up, but this makes sense to me. It's way easier for them to just rope off 200-300 seats near the front and then just let people "fight it out" in that space than try to actually ticket individual reserved seats for everyone. Knowing how the city of Chicago works, can you imagine them trying to organize all that? It's kind of like how they rope off a few rows for the free shows at Pritzker until just before the show. I mean, I'm sure it'll be a total clusterf*ck anyway, but hopefully they'll give you guys priority seating as they're supposed to...
Madcap
I got shut out of the initial lottery, but got an email for second chance tickets yesterday and was able to pick up a pair. also curious as to how the GA thing is going to work. I'm hoping that they just haven't figured out the seat numbers yet and they'll be issued when the tickets are mailed or something like that.

As far as seating, this is the city of Chicago we're talking about. There will probably be like 200-300 seats roped off up front for presale buyers, but I virtually guarantee they won't assign seating if they haven't already done it by this point. So it's a good bet there will still be some jostling for position within that presale section.
calvino
Looks like there will be a roped off section for the premium seats - I assuming the lottery tickets are considered premium, though I could be wrong.
Cold as Gasoline
Couldn't get a premium ticket (added it to my cart and immediately got an error saying no more tickets of this type available), but got GA. Close enough!

I think you're right, the lottery tickets were $50 each, and the GA tickets on sale today are $25.
nalafej
Can't believe that I just got back from vacation and there are still tickets available for this...
