They should have written some better songs.

The "Miss Jackson" sense?

Dude forgot to say "Quarter" when he ordered his Double Quarter Pounder.

That guy got hosed on the McChicken. They're on the dollar menu around here.

That Tegan & Sara song that was on the radio last year ... I think it's called "Back In Your Head." What a horrendous piece of shit that is.

If you're not familiar with xkcd, just click the RANDOM button for a while to get an idea of its greatness. It's one of my two or three favorite web comics, though the math/physics/programming stuff is sometimes over my head. If it hooks you, you can catch up on some of the recurring characters and bits via its Wikipedia page.

xkcd weighs in Hover your mouse pointer over the strip to see the extra joke (relevant to this thread).

You're really reaching here. Yes, the cost of living in New York is absurdly high, but a player making $1 million per year is doing really well in that town, never mind a player making $25 million. The Yankees aren't throwing that kind of money around just because it's expensive to live there.

That was amazing ... but I'm with Moss:

That's not what the thread subject says ... it says "new word order." If there's a chance for a new word order, I'm all for it.

I was just thinking that because of the restrictions of the VC search function (you can only use keywords of four or more letters), the only way to search for mentions of this show title on VC is to search for "your mother," which probably won't yield the most accurate results.

That might explain the shortage of great Japanese hitters in the U.S. major leagues. I think Ichiro hits like that, but he probably has uncanny hand-eye coordination, or something. It can't be easy to get good contact when you're already running to first.

I think there's a chance that Fukudome could improve his hitting. It often seemed to me that he was bailing out of the batter's box in the middle of his swing, like he was in too much of a hurry to get to first base. When he was hitting better, earlier in the season, I don't think he was bailing out quite as much, and he was making pretty decent contact. But, that's just my untrained observation. I probably couldn't hit a 57-MPH fastball (not to mention 97 MPH), so what do I know.

A local legend. RIP, Ron. I believe he owned a couple of houses a ways north of ours, but I don't know whether he lived in one of them. (edit: According to the local news story, he did.) It's weird to think that a rock legend could be one of your neighbors.

I've never caught a ball. It doesn't help that until recently, I nearly always sat in shitty upper-deck seats that weren't in the usual high-traffic lanes for fouls or home runs. My dad caught one once.

They mean a bit more than that. In Ann Arbor, for example, a slot in the top 25 helps take our minds off of the 2008 football debacle. It's been far too long since the Wolverines had a decent basketball program. I'm hopeful that this year's team will enable Beilein to lure some top recruits who might otherwise have looked toward East Lansing or Columbus or beyond. A berth in the NCAA tournament would also help.

I don't know a thing about how or why this happened, but can you imagine walking down the street and stumbling upon this? The River Dancing in the Dark I'm On Fire

There's been a bit of discussion about this here. -
Can you buy a Neal Cotts shirt? I'd like to see him go too.

I liked Favre OK (despite being a Packer) until he began the annual "maybe I'll retire" routine, and then I just thought he was a douche. And like you, my Peyton animosity is entirely rooted in his alma mater. It's hard for me to like anyone who came out of that program, even when they play for my favorite team. Even so, the Manning commercial in the hotel is excellent.

That book sat on my parents' living room bookshelf all through my early childhood (until I was about 9), and I remember thinking it was a cool title and I should really read it someday -- when I was old enough to get something out of it. Maybe I can borrow their copy. Also on that shelf, among dozens of others: Hard Times by Studs Terkel, which might be a good thing to dig into right about now.
