  1. I might have to go see this... "Control" This picture about Joy Division's Ian Curtis is one of the most beautiful movies ever made about rock 'n' roll. By Stephanie Zacharek Oct. 10, 2007 | In the upstate New York city I grew up in, in the late 1970s, there was a radio station that played what it called "the music of your life." The fact that I can't for the life of me remember what kind of music this station played -- Old Patti Page songs? All Creedence, all the time? -- proves that whatever it was, it sure wasn't the music of my life. The format was surely designed for someone else:
  2. It's a good thing you love his creativity, because his hands are for shit. He might be doing a lot more of that celebration if he didn't drop so many easy passes.
  3. Yeah, speaking as a lifelong Bears fan, that's crazy talk. This Bears team isn't nearly as good as they were last year. And the Bears' and Packers' remaining schedules are pretty similar.
  4. Hey, just because you cheer for a totally repugnant team doesn't mean I have to.
  5. If that happens, it's only because the rest of the NFC pretty much sucks, except for Dallas, and maybe (just maybe) the Packers. With the injuries they've had on defense, and the problems they were having even before those injuries, plus their quarterback situation, I just don't see the Bears being better than 8-8. I hope I'm wrong, but... Of course, 8-8 just might get them a wildcard.
  6. So, was this supposed to be a poll or something?
  7. What the hell was Wedge thinking, trotting Joe Fucking Borowski out there last night? I know he's your closer and all, but the guy is a stiff. Betancourt was cruising ... was he lifted just to protect Borowski's ego?
  8. They need better offensive production (and overall reliability) from the center and right field positions. You could argue that they have the personnel in the organization to make that happen right now, but it didn't really happen this year. I think they'd be smart to stick with their current infield for a while, though (Ramirez - Theriot - DeRosa - Lee). I don't really trust Lilly to have another year like he did this year. They need either one more superstar starter or two or three very respectable ones before I see them winning it all. After Marmol, that bullpen doesn't have much. On th
  9. They're one great position player AND about three better-than-average starting pitchers from making a serious run at it.
  10. I'm going to try to work that phrase into a conversation sometime today.
  11. I think you mean "turquoise." The only thing that'll help that club is a divorce from Angelos.
  12. We saw Steve at the Guinness Fleadh in Chicago back in 2000(?). He played on the smaller second stage with the Del McCoury band backing him up. They all stood around and sang into a single microphone. We also saw Van Morrison, Elvis Costello & Steve Nieve, John Prine, and the Saw Doctors (among others) that day, but Earle's was easily the best performance of them all.
  13. Yeah, anyone complaining about TBS' coverage has obviously never seen Fox broadcast baseball. Their broadcasters suck, their graphics suck, their commercials suck, their in-the-stands reporters suck, their studio analysts suck, and the whole package makes the games almost unbearable. If it wasn't somehow still baseball, I wouldn't bother watching at all. That said, I really wish Frank Caliendo would go away.
  14. You're probably the first person I've ever heard of who thinks so highly of that song.
  15. The Cowboys are probably the only team I hate anywhere near as much as I hate the Yankees*. SO CLOSE to a perfect evening of sports. * edit: Forgot about the Red Wings. They won too.
  16. It should be noted that while he did indeed tie Blanda, it took him more than twice as many games to do so.
  17. I remember thinking it was funny back in the day (i.e., circa 1980) when I realized that Andy wasn't "Born in the '50s."
