  1. Starling Electric - Clouded Staircase Local Ann Arborites who have a compulsive '60s psychedelia fetish, yet also come off sounding like Guided By Voices much of the time (they've opened for Robert Pollard on occasion). I can't believe these guys have been right under my nose for a while and I just now heard of them.
  2. A Monday night. I might have to go in and see him in Chicago on Friday, then.
  3. Slightly off topic, but can someone explain to me why anyone thinks Tom Brady is hot? Dude looks like he could be doing Geico "even a caveman can do it" commercials. Seriously. I don't get the attraction. Of course, being a heterosexual male, maybe I shouldn't anyway.
  4. Wow. Coincidentally, I just finished listening to Farewell to the World for the first time when I saw this thread. How weird.
  5. Link please? I'd like to know how solid this information is. It's not on any of the usual sites that would be announcing such things (e.g., frenz.com). If true ... I'm almost sad about it, because Paul couldn't be around for it. I kind of wonder if Paul might be alive today if he'd known this could happen. Maybe not, but I still wonder. I have very mixed feelings. I'll probably go see them if they tour, and I'm sure I'll check out the new album, but without the core of Neil, Nick, and Paul it just doesn't seem right somehow.
  6. Listening to it now for the first time (first track). Sounds like soundboard to me. Sweet.
  7. I highly doubt this. edit: Um ... OK ... or maybe I don't(?)
  8. Three CDs worth of stuff from 1995 -- August 17-19, 24, 27, supposedly soundboard, up on Oink right now in FLAC. Anyone heard these? I'm currently downloading.
  9. Yep Roc has apparently confused Nick Lowe with David Cassidy.
  10. He's also a pretty crazy drummer, if I recall correctly. That could work.
  11. If I were in town that weekend, I'd probably be here.
  12. They were/are a pretty darn good band from Chicago who put out a couple of pretty darn good albums in '97 and '01 and are apparently now back together and recording again. Linky
  13. I'm a big Posies fan ... haven't had a chance to see Jon play solo, though. He has implied that Ann Arbor may be in his future (his wife's family is from Michigan and he has friends here in town, I think). I was really blown away by his record ... its release had been delayed so many times that several of us on his message board (or was it the Posies one?) began to wonder whether it actually existed. The wait was worth it.
  14. I don't think it's the intro. I think the rapid snare thing is scattered throughout in the background. Listen from about 3:35 to 3:55 (for example) -- I think that's probably what he's referring to. It's elsewhere too -- runs through the whole song, in and out.
  15. Wow. I had no idea. Glad he's back.
  16. ...not here, but when I first saw the headline on Yahoo last night. I almost wished it had been Pete. Then we could stop fucking hearing about him. RIP, Denny.

  18. I probably should have mentioned that this didn't work very well for me in Firefox. If you aren't getting little "Correct!" notifications when you enter an artist and album title correctly, try doing it in IE.
  19. I might have been able to identify a couple of their earlier covers, but not that one. I'd seen it before but not enough to have it register in my mind.
  20. I saw them in 2002 or so, opening for the Pernice Brothers here at the Blind Pig. It was a really good show and I ended up buying their two albums as a result. Those records aren't fantastic, but they're very good. I'd be interested to hear their new stuff. Maybe they'll come over this way.
