  1. I saw the tribute on their site yesterday, and now this. As a Michigan fan, I have to say ... these guys have handled this with class every step of the way. They could have gone such a different direction with Bo's death, but they've steered clear of every opportunity to be crass or callous. It was all in good fun while it lasted, and now it's over and they'll move on. Good for them, and I hope they still play together in some other incarnation, even if it takes the form of another anti-Michigan band.
  2. Shaq's out 4-6 weeks -- having surgery on torn cartilage in his knee. Of course, this just means he'll be better rested for the playoffs.
  3. This is what happens when expensive audio tape is replaced by cheap hard drive space. That said, I'm enjoying a lot of this, though I doubt I'll ever listen to most of it a second time.
  4. Actually, it used to be that the only bowl game Big Ten teams ever went to was the Rose, so only the conference champion played in a bowl. That was how there could be a 10-1 team that didn't play in a bowl. edit: I looked it up on Michigan's athletics site and that conference-wide rule lasted until '75. Michigan went to the Orange Bowl in '76, the first year Big Ten teams were allowed to go to other bowls.
  5. I've hated Musburger since CBS' "The NFL Today" back in the '70s. Since then, many sportscasters have come along whom I despise more than Musburger (Exhibit A: Bill Walton), but I still don't like him.
  6. It occurs to me (only now, for the first time) that I think I saw Bo's last regular season game. A friend of mine who went to U-M got me a ticket to the Ohio State game in the fall of '89. We were college seniors that year. That was my first trip to the Big House. Michigan won and went to the Rose Bowl.
  7. This may be an inappropriate thought at a moment like this, but I hope Brent Musburger isn't the ABC play-by-play man for tomorrow's game. He makes me want to vomit on a good day, but give him something like the death of Bo Schembechler to stir into every single thing that happens tomorrow, and he becomes impossible to listen to. I think I will be watching the game with the TV muted and the local radio broadcast on.
  8. Bo was one of those guys that I just figured would live forever. This is a huge loss to Ann Arbor and the university. And yes, though you'll hear this way too many times over the next thirty hours or so, it's really too bad he couldn't be around to see tomorrow's game.
  9. Clearly he needs to stop appearing on TV shows. Every time he does, he ends up in the hospital.
  10. Meh. The guy was certainly trying a bit too hard to diss Meloy (which shouldn't take that much effort) and he didn't spend nearly enough of his concert review reviewing the actual concert. But, he's a music critic, and this kind of hatchet job is what these people live for. I'm not a fan of the Decemberists, so I thought it was hilarious, even if it was unnecessarily mean-spirited.
  11. I love it that they still have shows in Gardner. It's the basement of the dorm I lived in my freshman year -- I used to sit on that stage and watch TV in my boxer shorts while my laundry was going. (OK, sorry, TMI.) deepseacatfish, you goin'?
  12. I'm a huge Crowded House/Neil Finn fan (and also a fan of Tim, though to a somewhat lesser extent). I caught on to them a bit late in the game -- had a chance to go see them for free near Chicago in 1991 (Woodface tour) and didn't manage to get there. Instead I sat home listening to the live WXRT broadcast of the show (which I taped) and smacking myself on the forehead repeatedly for not being there. I saw Neil in early '03(?) in Seattle at the Showbox, touring on One Nil (or One All, as it appeared in the U.S.). Not quite the same as a CH show, but still unforgettable. Well, maybe not
  13. It's only moving that slowly because the local stations have been giving game-day weather forecasts since last Saturday evening. Often at the expense of more relevant, shorter-term forecasts.
  14. I think I broke it. It didn't register a score for me. Somehow I was suddenly on trial 37 of 36.
  15. I'll have to check out SoundTap -- that looks cool. I was going to say Audacity, but it's not the most intuitive interface for recording. It's a great all-around program, though, for sound recording, editing, etc. -- and it's free.
  16. From CNN.com today: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dobbs: I'm a populist and proud of it POSTED: 8:13 a.m. EST, November 15, 2006 By Lou Dobbs, CNN Editor's note: Lou Dobbs' commentary appears every Wednesday on CNN.com. NEW YORK (CNN) -- The Democratic victory last week has our political elites in both parties and in the national media squealing like stuck pigs. Way to go, America, we may be on the way. It seems nothing frightens our free trade and pro-illegal immigration orthodoxies more than putting the common good and the national interest above dominant
  17. Maybe, but not for the money Bonds wants.
  18. I should preface this by saying that I wish Barry Bonds would just go away, but assuming he doesn't, he's going to be in the American League next year as somebody's DH.
  19. I was already recoiling at my mental image of what that scene must entail, and then you go and use the words "wiped" and "shot."
