Finally listening to the new Tim O'Reagan. Me likey so far (four tracks in). Prior to that, was listening to the new Buckner. Also good. Looks like I'll have a pretty big order to place at Miles of Music sometime soon.

It's on Oink too... Also on Oink (just noticed this!): a set of three live shows from back in '96, plus some radio performances -- three discs' worth, all soundboard and lossless. I'm downloading it now, and will continue to seed it for a while after it's complete.

Without "Stand," that record still would have pretty much sucked, in my opinion.

This is more or less where I am on the subject, too -- however, those concerns are secondary for me, behind the fact that I simply have no desire to raise children. Being a parent doesn't interest me in the slightest, and I don't feel any biological imperative to populate the earth with little cryptiques. Yes, those feelings are reinforced by my cynicism about the state of the world, but I can't say for sure that the fucked-up world, alone, would prevent me from having kids.

I'm sure you could find plenty of those examples -- I'm an imperfect being like anyone. That is my personal philosophy, though, despite occasional lapses in practicing it. I'm a heck of a lot better at it now than I used to be.

The idea of murder is a human construct. It wasn't considered right or wrong until some human decided it was wrong. I'm saying that I don't believe in some inviolable notion of what "should be." Morality is something that humans invented, and which includes certain ideas that have been agreed upon across most cultures over centuries, if not millennia. I happen to sleep better at night because the vast majority of people regard murder as wrong, but I harbor no illusions that its wrongness derives from some superhuman source, be it a god or prophet or cosmic truth. Of course you would think that, believing what you do. I don't think there is a "should be." Any "should be" is an arbitrary idea invented by humans. That's why I rely on science to tell me what is.

I made a lovely stir-fry of chicken, broccoli, snow peas, red peppers, and a few other things. Dumped a couple of tablespoons of black bean & garlic sauce on top of it. Mmmm-mmmm-good. Yes, it's nearly midnight and I'm still thinking about this evening's meal.
