Yup, that crackback block was bullshit. I only watched a few minutes of that game, but I saw that happen live, and had to wonder what Favre would be saying if someone had done that to him and messed up his consecutive-starts streak.

I'm not so sure about that. The phrase "major violations" has been thrown around a lot in reference to this. And as long as the NCAA wishes to perpetuate the myth of the "student athlete," they have to treat violations of this nature pretty seriously. My brother is agitating for the firing of Rodriguez and the hiring of a certain Mr. Shanahan, lately of Denver, Colorado.

I thought Jesus was in Oasis.
-
They should be careful what they wish for. There's nothing preventing the NCAA from investigating Rodriguez's tenure in Morgantown.

...or they honestly think the band sucks. I think we need a new codicil to Godwin's law covering the use of "indie hipster."

Absolutely, the hype has been unreal. But for those of us who were bitterly disappointed in the quality of the 1987 CDs, this is a big deal.

I would consider buying the LP artwork book separately, if they offered it that way. Not interested in the rest of it, though.

Well, shit. If true, this could hasten Rodriguez's departure from Ann Arbor ... which many around here would welcome. Problem is, if they fire him now, they'll probably have to hire another spread-offense coach, because the program is in the process of being retooled for that in terms of recruiting, and otherwise. There's a much longer story at the link within the article below. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Updated: August 30, 2009, 12:57 AM ET Report: Players allege rules were broken ESPN.com news services DETROIT -- Several Michigan football players claim the p

No great tragedy. Their hype always outstripped their talent. Just my opinion, of course.

It wouldn't surprise me if a few stores have mono boxes on the release date, but probably places like Amoeba rather than Target. If Target and Wal-Mart are saving any for their physical stores, they'll be scattered -- you have to figure that most of the 10,000 units got pre-ordered online, and no more than a couple thousand (if that) would be available for in-store sales. And not all of those would go to Target/Wal-Mart. The chance of ANY store having one in stock will be slim to none.

I had just started a new job in the Chicago area a couple of weeks earlier and a few of my coworkers had been at that final show. One or two of them hadn't heard the news by the time they arrived at work the next morning. It was weird, because I was still getting to know these folks. That was a very odd day at the office. The man sure could play.

Awesome. At least that one's not a limited edition. Who but the Beatles could sell out a 17-disc box set? As much as anything, though, it's a testament to how crappy the original CD releases were...

What's the consensus on Wilco (The Album)?
cryptique replied to Shining Sunbeam's topic in Just A Fan
The consensus is that there's no consensus. Or something like that. -

I don't. But then, I don't really like humans. The sooner we die off and leave this planet to the animals, the better. Assuming we haven't driven them all to extinction first. I never kill spiders intentionally. I try not to kill anything, but I make an exception for mosquitoes. -
That bundle looks like a pretty sweet deal. I can wait until late October.

After waiting so long for these (how many months ago were they announced?), I'm getting impatient in these final days. Two. More. Weeks. I'm sure I'll wind up disappointed somehow.
-
Me too. Continuing my "returning to old favorites" day.
-
I don't expect them to make more. But they may release the discs individually at some point (no guarantees on that either). Check around. It's sold out on Amazon, but other places still list it as available for pre-ordering.

A little respect for the dead, please. Christ.

I picked this up on vinyl over the weekend -- 1978 repackaging of those albums as a two-LP set. This morning I'm returning to old favorites. First up:

The Beatles Dr. Ebbetts bootleg discs
cryptique replied to cgoodwin22's topic in Someone Else's Song
I've heard many of them and they do sound superior. Dr. Ebbetts himself recently announced, however, that the upcoming official remasters are so good that he will no longer circulate his own mixes. Quite an endorsement, if you ask me. -
Depends on which stereo mixes we're talking about: the ones made immediately after the original mono mixes, or ones that were made later ('87) by George Martin. The list of anomalies posted earlier was referring to the original stereo mixes from the '60s. Many of these anomalies were cleaned up (or became less audible) in the 1987 digital masters. So, the original 1960s stereo mixes added most (all?) of the anomalies.

He had his flaws, but he was a terrific Senator, and history will remember him as a great man. This morning's obituary on NPR suggested that, because of the huge amount of legislation he authored, he actually had more of an effect on his country than either of his more famous brothers. RIP, Ted.
