Rep. Paul conveniently omits from his screed any mention of what happened when the government (starting with Reagan, leading up to Bush 43) stepped back and allowed "freedom" in the financial markets. I'm all for limiting the size and scope of government, but strong, sensible, enforceable regulations are necessary for keeping those greedy assholes on Wall Street in check (along with all the other greedy assholes ... that's one thing this country will never see a shortage of). Those regulations must come from government, because the self-regulation thing's been tried, and boy did it ever fail

caliber, do you have Adblock Plus enabled on your work computer? If so, try momentarily disabling it (Tools / Adblock Plus Preferences, then Options / Enable Adblock Plus). Then refresh Firefox. If all that stuff returns, there's your problem. As for what to do about it ... I don't know. If you don't have Adblock Plus, it could still be some other kind of blocker at work, I suppose. edit: If it is Adblock Plus that's causing the problem, you can roll back to an earlier "patterns" file. The patterns file will likely be stored in a location under Documents and Settings, such as: C:\D

I've been primarily a headphones listener for several years -- good studio-quality headphones, not cheap earbuds or whatever. They definitely enhance my enjoyment of music. They're also the reason I'm a format snob when it comes to lossy digital files.

Yeah, that's a great one. I also like "Castles Made of Sand." Among countless others. Hendrix knew how to open a song.

Oh hell yes. Simply one of the most perfect songs ever recorded.

Weren't they something like $24,000 per show this year?

Wow. I could blow up 3.1 virtually at will. That said, I liked it better than Windows 95. I had one of those (with a whopping 30MB hard disk) ... but before that, I had a Commodore 64.

There once was a time when I would have picked AL solely because there were more AL parks with natural grass, but that hasn't been the case for years. Unless I'm mistaken, there are only three parks left with artificial surfaces and they're all in the AL. Now I'd go with NL, most likely, if I had to choose -- and not necessarily because of the turf thing. edit: And yes, I realize this is a question about watching a game on TV. I've always hated watching artifical turf games, in person or otherwise.

I had one of those. I believe there was a crank that worked the elevator, and it rang the bell that sat on top of the tower. I used to use my Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars to play with it -- they were too small, but they got up to a pretty good speed coming down the curved ramp.

Oh hell yes ... a friend had one of those. It ruled.

I was wondering how long we'd have to wait for the first comment from the peanut gallery of Mac users. Nine-and-a-half hours must be some kind of new record for restraint.

This is my favorite take on it so far.

"Young"? He'll be 30 when the season starts...

Close. Three of them involved Golden Tee.

It might behoove you to pipe up about your interest sometime around early November(?), so when people are assembling their groups, they think of you. There will probably be threads about this, but if not, start one at that time. As I understand it, the money is due at the time of the auction, so these groups are put together in advance and all the money is collected prior to the auction.

They'll ask you for five, so get thinking. Mine were horribly boring, and I think they probably hurt my chances of getting "the call."

I blame it on this post, which went up yesterday on BoingBoing. I'm hoping that everyone has survived the crash -- for obvious reasons, but also because it would keep the streak mentioned at that link going.
