  1. You see, autumn has a smell. That's what I think about when I think about autumn. I couldn't possibly describe the aroma of dead oak leaves and cold wind, but that's autumn.
  2. I originally thought both of these albums had been reissued only on vinyl, so I was pleased to stumble on this cd in the store today:
  3. That's really sad. He was a genius player, and his contributions to Floyd's music have been so overlooked in the battle of egos between Waters and Gilmour.
  4. "My lifestyle/determines my shoe style" "Enter Sandalman"
  5. Well, night one I got super drunk and didn't watch any bands. But I had lots of fun nonetheless. The second night I got to watch Paint It Black and Strike Anywhere and I really enjoyed their sets.
  6. Pretty damn good. I got a job at Argentum Photo Lab in Hollywood, which is really awesome. I volunteered at the F Yeah Fest last weekend, which was alot of fun. All in all I'm enjoying it. Its kind of bittersweet that I'm heading off to New Hampshire in January for a 10 month internship because I really enjoy it here.

  8. I think working down the street from Amoeba Music in Hollywood could be the death of my bank account.
  9. That could be because Rick Rubin suggested they tune up to standard tuning, which is higher than the last few records. I'm sure its tough for him to sing higher now than it was back in the day.
  10. I think its pretty funny how long a conversation can go on when all we're talking about is semantics. I couldn't care less what you call it, alt-country, intellegent country, country rock, who gives a shit? Do you need to really differentiate between alt-country and country anyway? All it does is complicate things. If you get rid of a meaningless sub-genre tag, and all you're left with is "country", it surely wouldn't bother me that The Jayhawks and Garth Brooks share a similar genre tag. It wouldn't change my listening habits or my opinion of the music. Why does everyone get so hung up
  11. I really enjoyed it. Its basically an aging late 20s punk writing in short snippets about working as a sub in special ed classrooms in Portland. I read it in one sitting.

I totally agree with that sentiment. I have to add: What the fuck is everyone here talking about? I'm lost.
  15. I don't know, I've seen plenty of press about that one. Heck, that's how I found out about them.
  16. Yeah, that's just about my take on it, too
  17. I just read a piece about the new record in the LA Times. I have to say I'm actually excited to hear the new one.

I fear...threads about future Wilco releases turning into discussions about crappy MMJ albums.
  19. "Don't Cry No Tears" would be cool. I'd like to see Nels guest on "Cortez...". Imagine the possibilities.

Right-o. A good song is a good song, regardless of who plays a guitar lead on it or who plays drums on it or how much white noise is on the recording. All that will influence the outcome, but the heart of a song doesn't reflect the window dressing. And Jeff is a master of writing simple and powerful songs.
  21. Great. I move to LA and then Philly gets Neil and Wilco. Bollocks.
