so i've heard the "What Light" single, seen the "Hate It Here" video, and have seen "Walken" live. I'm pretty fuckin' excited about this album.

It's a little strange to listen to compared to their later records, nothing but the band and occasionally Martin on the piano. And downright refreshing compared to any record today, sounds like four young dudes playing their hearts out, not 'perfect' sounding and not dense at all, which coincidentally shows the strength of the songs.

Instant Karma! always stuck out for me, it reminds me of the serious lack of exclamation marks in song titles.

that's expected...but both are criticized for their "excess", whether it be nels improv and "jazzy" licks or jay's overdubs and onstage rockstar antics. both are pretty polarizing. or maybe it comes down to the dreads and the high socks, i don't know.

Nels hating just never gets old. Just like Jay hating, must have something to do with lead guitar.

i'm probably going to get this album in some shape or form. i heard arular in a record store, i thought it sounded awful, but then oddly appealing. it's good to listen to every now and then.
