Loose Fur's Born Again In The USA
tongue-tied replied to NationalDust's topic in Someone Else's Song
i think O'Rourke's stuff is better than Tweedy's on Born Again: Answers, Stupid as the Sun, and Thou Shalt Wilt trump everything except maybe Wreckroom and Pretty Sparks. Everything's good though, and I can't really pick which album I like better, the songs on Born Again seem light compared to the drawn out ones on Loose Fur. I guess nothing comes close to the mind-blowing time-stopping nature of those songs, especially Chinese Apple. They're very different albums though. All I can say is that they better start working on number three soon. -

Pat IMed me last night and said it'll be the Captain & Tenille cover. -
sing what you feel seems more enlightened than gamble like a fiend. also, O'Rourke is on You Are My Face, What Light, and Hate It Here, so he's still part of the wilcoworld.

well, since this has gone into general impressions, i went out and bought the album today and drove around town listening to it and i thought it was great. reading this place had me a little worried, but it isn't a snorefest, it too has its edgy parts, and after completing the listen it occured to me that nothing i heard sounded "jazzy". the guitar solos are great. the album sounds good too, my only complaint is that jeff's voice is a little too loud in the mix making some s's and sh-sounds a little earsplitting when i'm playing it loud (hoping for some O'Rourke mixes to show up out of interes

the album may continue to remain less popular than singles, but i have a hard time believing that it'll die or even just barely survive. though the internet has made singles more popular, and the average listener may never care to check out a beatles album again in favor of just "hey jude", it also makes a wealth of information available to those who can't get enough music. all my education of the music of the 60's and 70's (that's worthwhile to me, and besides the huge names) has been found by crossreferencing online. it also shows that most acts worth getting into are capable of making a sol

why exlude Zaireeka? The idea that an album deserves some sort of numerical assignment is baloney, but Being There and Ghost seem shortchanged to me, but not as much as Zaireeka! I don't know about Sky Blue Sky, I could tell you tomorrow maybe. It seems that some people who look down on Pitchfork's credibility are awfully invested emotionally in their ratings.

Being There is great, sometimes I think higher of it than YHF even when I'm not thinking chronologically. It certainly was an explosive time for Tweedy's creativity, seeing how he's gone back to his demo tapes from that era again and again. Its energy is undeniable, it fucking rocks. However, I think Wilco has musically matured since then, they've always been a band where the songs are great, but the music hasn't always matched. There was one time where everything seemed organic, where the right people using the right tools with the right ideas luckily all came together to create something bey

i like Carvey, but i found that interview to be strangely lacking any substance, comedic or otherwise, and it seemed to go on too long. first SF episode was a little shakey, you could even see Max's cue cards. hopefull it'll pick up steam tonight.
