  1. wowee, really want to see it again. best "car-can't-start-they're-gonna-catch-us" scene ever, among other things.
  2. they lead up to shane and hail him as king, if i'm not mistaken.
  3. i'd probably lose a few nights sleep after seeing that. imagine standing next to Ringo watching McCartney, too much.
  4. Wilco is well represented online and in music mags, but until recently they practically didn't exist on television. It was smart of them to find themselves a spot where they could be heard by more people than ever. I don't have the desire for Wilco, or any band I like, to have limited success just so I can feel in on something secret or have them playing intimate venues forever (hell, McCartney just played Amoeba, and the White Stripes have been playing remote places in Canada. Those in it for the music [you know, the good bands] don't seem content with just stadium shows). So I don't worry ab
  5. What will ya have?! I'll have a pint! I'll have a pint with you, Sir! And if one of ya' doesn't order soon We'll be chucked out of the boozer! deedaleetledee da deedaleetledee...
  6. sonic youth are completely average looking people, aside from thurston being a giant. if they want an ugly band, take a look at Loose Fur.
  7. all of my favorite current day bands live in the U S of A. and i don't much appreciate these foreign bands coming over trying to take their jerbs.
  8. what's the shame in making a record for a label? that's how it originally worked and some damn fine ones were made.
  9. with few exceptions, i have a strong dislike for introductions. like the horn intro on modest mouse's GNFPWLBN, it's only a few seconds, but completely unnecessary. starting with the guitar of 'World at Large' would have been ten times better. Just listened to Gruff Rhys's Candylion, "This Is Just The Beginning" is likewise useless fluff.
  10. i also like the albums that open with a bold statement, which wilco has done a few times. Misunderstood, IATTBYH, ALTWYS all aren't poppy tunes, but great signifyers of what the album contains. Grandaddy opened up Sophtware Slump with an 8+ minute track, which is fairly gutsy and one of the best things they did. The second track being catchy though is very very common. I'm listening to London Calling now, I think more bands should sequence their albums that way, were every track is goddamn amazing.
  11. wow, i stopped at the same place. fuck that game.
  12. I thought I'd mention that I only ever hear the verb "shill" when people talk about music in commercials, just like I only ever hear the word "campy" when people talk about batman movies.
  13. is it just me, or is the keyboard in Icky Thump completely unrelated to the sound of bagpipes and that perhaps people were listening for bagpipes to appear on this record since they were mentioned and might have mistakenly heard them in Icky Thump?
  14. Spider's my hero, no joke. and i blame Jeff Tweedy for the Pogues selling out.
  15. if wilco held an ice cream social in the loft for those concerned with the ad campaign, i'm sure that'd smooth things over.
  16. yeah, Icky Thump was a little sloppy. I liked Conan's old-timey praise though, "That's the real deal! I'd listen to that twice!". Effect and Cause was good, though the audience looked a little uncomfortable being on camera.
  17. while i don't always think about the commercial when i hear a song used for one, i do tend to never forget that commercial in general. it usually doesn't bother me and the songs aren't ruined for me, but it's absolutely true that the product hitches a ride, so to speak.
  18. damn, watched half last night and now its gone.
  19. i think you missed Maker's point, it might have been lost in the profanity.
