  1. I have a bunch of pedals, but mostly just my Epiphone Casino int a Fender Deville. I'm thinking about getting a '65 Deluxe Reissue though.
  2. Cobain had already written the riff before Uncle Tupelo had come out, and based it on "More Than a Feeling" and "Debaser". Considering myself something of an expert on Nirvana (I had to have some sort of hobby when I wasn't getting laid in High school) I've read nothing that indicates that he ever heard the Uncle Tupelo song, or heard Uncle Tupelo period. Cobain got most of his records from Slim Moon (who went onto Found Kill Rockstars) and Calvin Johnson (who formed K records) and spreading Uncle Tupelo records would fit neither of their M.O.'s, when you consider what each has released on
  3. Pshh...I time travelled with the band and concocted music boxes in the 1830s that play the melody to What Light.
  4. All this My Darling hate makes me sad; My darling is majestic.
  5. See you're a perfect example of what I just said... Wilco being a band of such immense variety brings fans who have different tastes outside of Wilco. For example, I love the Rolling Stones, but if I listed my favorite RS songs, none would be the typical fuzzed out riff ones people mention; My favorites would be Moonlight Mile, Wild Horses, You Can't Always Get What You Want, Salt of the Earth, Shine a Light. I personally like songs I can sit in a dark room with headphones on and feel something from, or at least ones that give me something to think about...Box Full of Letters doesn't fit i
  6. I think Wilco, due to their variety of sounds attracts fans from different musical backgrounds. When I got into Wilco, I didn't even own a single country album. I was a huge fan of the Beatles and The Velvets though, so albums like Summer Teeth, and YHF hit me right off the bat, but I found A.M. and parts of being there incredibly corny. On the opposite end of the spectrum, someone who's first music love is more rootsy music will see Pieholden as boring, and a lot of Summer Teeth that way. When I bought Summerteeth I was OBSESSED with Magical Mystery Tour, Pet Sounds, and Loaded, so heh...
  7. You're all a bunch of posers. I own Wilco's entire catalog on wax cylinders. Yeah... Beat that.

  9. Pick Up the Change What's the World Got in Store Was I In Your Dreams? The Late Greats Shake it Off basically that's it. I don't even hate most of those...those are just the wilco songs that bug me on some level. They're not even the worst or weakest wilco songs, they're just songs that have something about them that rub me the wrong way. For example, I find The Late Greats kind of middling. Situating it after one of Wilco's most beautifully sad songs just rubs me the wrong way. I like What's the World Got in Store musically but the intro is just complete cheese to the 40th power. I alw
  10. Jesus Christ...The Veedon Fleece reissue is out? And I missed it... *goes to Amazon*
  11. The YHF sessions are so fascinating...I'd love of it if Kot did a complete expose on them, maybe for the 33 1/3 series.
  12. Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!! by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds is right now, my top album of the year; It's great to hear Nick Cave, who's been active since the late 70s, every bit as great as he's ever been, and possibly even getting better.
  13. Which really doesn't disprove my point. Elton writes the music and performs it; therefore people consider them his songs. I have the same feeling about the Mermaid Avenue stuff; those songs are Billy Bragg's and Wilco's respectively.
  14. that's good for the most part...Personally, Theologians is a little driving for my tastes (since this is after all, a lullabye tape.) otherwise, you did a good job. some other suggestions for an alternate mix tape (not all of these, just pick your favs I guess). These all relax me on some level musically; if you have a problem with a child hearing certain lyrical content, obviously a few songs like "She's a Jar" might be a little much. But these are all the ones I could think up that I find relaxing: Black Eye New Madrid Passenger Side Dash 7 Far Far Away What's the World Got in Stor
  15. Okay first, I have to say I love your avatar. Second, that's true. I guess I just meant they are still Wilco's songs. For example, Elton John only wrote the music to Your Song, not the lyrics. To me, it's still an Elton John song.
  16. The scream at the end of the bridge of "You Can't Always get What You Want" always gets me...it's not your usual scream; not angsty. But still fantastic. overall my two favorite screamers are Lennon and Cobain though.
  17. *DISCLAIMER: I DON'T FEEL LIKE SAYING IN MY OPINION AFTER EVERY SENTENCE...SO JUST PRETEND IT'S THERE* The new songs are all right...I honestly think Jeff may have run the well dry though; Being There, Summerteeth, Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, A Ghost is Born...all 4-5 star albums. Sky Blue Sky shows them becoming dangerously irrelevant....and maybe it was time...that level of artistic success, 4 great albums in a row (plus the Mermaid Avenues, which, even though Woody wrote the lyrics, Jeff still provided all those melodies), maybe he's just blown his metaphorical load? Last year, In Rainbows
  18. Have you watched Let it Be? John Lennon and Paul McCartney had more ego than the entirety of both Wilco and Radiohead combined... Besides, Jeff replaced all of the members who had egos with yes men who do whatever he wants...so IATTBYH is sort of irrelevant in examining the current band dynamic.
  19. Quite frankly a Beatles stones collaboration probably had a lot less chance of working than a Radiohead/ Wilco collaboration would. A lot less ego in Wilco/ Radiohead than Beatles/ Stones.
  20. Radiohead and Wilco doing a collaboration to me would be the modern day equivalent of a Beatles/ Stones collaboration...or a Superman/ Batman teamup movie. This is fucking epic.
  21. I hope it's not just a SBS part 2. I think we can all agree that part of the fun of Wilco (or the challenge) is that no two records sound alike. I hope they keep that up.
