  1. My MP is NDP so I'll vote for her again.
  2. Right now, the votes on the left and centre-left are split several ways, so it's hard. I try to be strategic. I usually vote NDP or Liberal, depending on the candidate - i.e., the one who appears to have a better chance of defeating a Conservative.
  3. I don't understand how it could help them. Canadians generally loathe Bush and the Republican Party (unless you're someone like David Frum), and the NDP and the Liberals always try to portray Harper as a Bush wannabe with a hidden agenda that will threaten Canadian values. Sarah Palin seems like a kooky caricature of the extreme right and she scares us.
  4. The Conservative approach to the problem of addiction is galling (and embarrassing). Just one of the many reasons they will never get my vote. A couple of books on the subject that I highly recommend: The Globalisation of Addiction In the Realm of Hungry Ghosts
  5. This is great news. Might actually be worth watching now.
  6. No vote is ever wasted. Having real choice on the ballot means that we can hold our MPs accountable and pulverize them when necessary (e.g., the Progressive Conservatives). Because the Liberals and the Conservatives have to earn every vote, sometimes, they even "borrow" good ideas from the Greens and the NDP.
  7. I was going to start a thread like this for a joke. How many pages do you think this one will go? Things could get really heated, so be on your toes moderators! Thank goodness we only have 37 days of this stuff. I love how boring our elections (usually) are. It's a blessing. My preference would be a Liberal minority govt. w/ a strong showing from the NDP. I'll probably vote NDP because the MP in my riding (Dawn Black) should be able to beat the Conservative candidate again.
  8. Palin: wrong woman, wrong message. She'd be a great pick if you were casting a reality TV show... other than that, yikes!
  9. Yes, this move could seriously backfire. Hopefully, it will also draw attention to their record on so-called "women's issues."
  10. I am a bad fan for missing your birthday. Hope it was a good one.
  11. )))))))))))healing(((((((((((((
  12. Unfortunately, Regina, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver were mortally wounded. Oh, Mr. Young, always breaking my heart! I've gotta say, that presale was a harrowing experience. For some reason, the @#$% website wouldn't accept my Canadian address for shipping (to purchase tix for a Canadian date!), so I had to call my American VC posse for back up. Much appreciated! *mwah!*
  13. This tour is big news in Canada. Some nice comments about Wilco on the CBC website. Link
  14. Brought up Anglican. My current beliefs are probably best described as a mishmash of Existential Humanism and Buddhist philosophy, even though they contradict each other.
  15. I fell in love with Nova Scotia, too. It's beautiful and the people are really funny and cool.
  16. I gotta say, the more I see of Obama, the more I like him. He's a bit more conservative than I am, but he seems very thoughtful and authentic. Wishing you good things in November. Let America Be America Again by Langston Hughes Let America be America again. Let it be the dream it used to be. Let it be the pioneer on the plain Seeking a home where he himself is free. (America never was America to me.) Let America be the dream the dreamers dreamed-- Let it be that great strong land of love Where never kings connive nor tyrants scheme That any man be crushed by one above. (It
  17. To me, it sees so weird that something like this would be televised on a major network. These religious/moral questions do seem a bit outside the scope of what govt. does. ... But maybe not in the US. I have no idea what religion the Prime Minister of Canada belongs to, and I don't care what his greatest moral failure is. I do know that he's an uptight douchebag and I hope he's on his way out.
  18. They spelled Winnipeg wrong. Nice to see that Halifax gets a show.
  19. D'oh! Oh well, any Neil is a good thing. I miss Wilco.
