Caught a bit of CNN town hall last night. Of course, NRA's answer is to fortify all schools. I guess I need to give Rubio credit for showing up - he definitely was in the hot seat. Tapper did a decent job of keeping everything in check - as well as the kids/adults asking the questions. The talk about fortifying schools from the victims and the NRA, rather than trying to curb guns, was unsettling, though. It shouldn't be discussion on the fortification of schools, but guns. My wife always likes to point out that our kids go outside for recess and gym -- how is one going to fortify a school's

Definitely will grab this one, if it is still available -- friends of mine are going to the show - I won't be able to swing it. I'll shoot you a PM

This reads like a a message from the NRA:

Indeed.

Resignment is what the oppostion to gun control wants - I would say the oppostion greatly benifits with these shootings and are completely fine with it. The more these events occur the more people resign to the fact "oh well, a 'crazy' person is gonna kill if they want to --- they gonna find a gun - no matter what, anyways" - so they give up opposing the gun lobby. Like President Obama always likes to say - pertaining to how democratic societies work: They are like ocean liners: you turn the wheel slowly, and the big ship pivots. Gun control - like civil rights - is a huge issue. It took

Would be cool see her at the Preston Bradly Hall - a beutiful place. Never realized the Cutural Center put on paid shows in the Hall. I have seen plenty of jazz shows there - but they were always free. Also, I have no idea who the above dude with VIle is.

I wouldn't go that far. I'll give you maybe 65% and that maybe that is even high. I think your letting the Trump regime influence you --- when you hear 'fake news' enough, even the non-Trumpites start believing it. They whole "trying to get the stories out first" is definitely hurting journalism -- but there are alot of outlets still doing the leg work and putting out great, interesting stuff and keeping the government in check. It is much harder now getting through the abundance of information that is out there and seperating it from fact and opinion, though. Which is what opposition to

Arrieta started to bug me (probably stemming from his dumb tweet after the Trump/Clinton election) , so I am fine with him leaving - plus he's crazy if he didn't accept a Darvish-type deal from the Cubs.
-
Typical Cub fan - always has to have the biggest.... Seriousily though - what's your thoughts on Darvis (KevinG). I haven't been following it all too much - but it doesn't look like the Cubs were ever really interested in re-signing Arrieta. Also a 6 year contract for a pitcher seems a bit crazy.

I managed not to see or watch any of the Barlow wake stuff - which is a good thing.

Go White Sox!

The possible gutting of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is very disconcerting. Again many of his voters probably may have no idea of it's dismantling or it's being framed as just cutting big government/regulation. Yet, many of his voters will get eventually screwed by big business and have no recourse. https://www.npr.org/2018/02/12/584980698/trump-administration-to-defang-consumer-protection-watchdog

Makes sense - one of the main organizers was living in Lyons, CO when the Fed's finally caught up with him.

Speaking of docs. - yesterday I watched Orange Sunshine: the story of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love on Amazon Prime -- nice flick. Some Dead references, throughout. Man they made alot of LSD.

Another bit on Barlow: From the Thoughts on the Dead page - nice write up. http://thoughtsonthedead.com/fourteen-thoughts-on-john-perry-barlow/

Regarding 9.11.73 -- I have never been a huge fan of Weather Report Suite and think the horns added much to the 9/11/17 version. Nice Dark Start, too --- the Phil outro into Morning Dew is great. Always nice to hear a Let Me Sing Your Blues Away - dig the horns on that one, too. Speaking of Doug Sahm - saw that there is a doc. on Netflix or Amazon - need to check that out. I know very little about him, actually nothing, except the Tupelo cover.

According to the below he managed Cheney's first electoral campaign. Crazy -- guessing they shared the same libertarian/anti-big goverment beliefs. Didn't know he was inolved with Burning Man, too. https://burners.me/tag/john-perry-barlow/

Parrish tells some nice stories about Barlow on the above radio show, too. I guess Barlow and John Kennedy were friends. Of all the people in the GD cirlce - I think Barlow has to be the most known and influential outside the Dead circle. Crazy that him and Weir got hooked up in their youth.
-
Great news about Malkmus -- plus he is playing Thalia Hall on June 3rd - definitely will catch that one. Must admit wasn't a huge fan of his last one. Bit too mellow.

Nice radio show from last night. McNally tells a nice story of Barlow working as the Dead's tour manager for the June '80 tour. https://kpfa.org/episode/dead-to-the-world-february-7-2018/

Definitely had a rough last couple of years. Was a very interesting, smart guy. Glad he was able to put up with Weir and write some great tunes. Message from his Electronic Frontier Foundation. http://electronic frontier foundation Definitely not a good way to start a new thread...

Starting with the 1st show with horns - 9.11.73. I am sure have listened to it before. Always enjoyed The Race is On - wonder why Weir dropped it, for the most part, after 74. It would have fit nicely during his cowboy segments of the 80s/90s. Always enjoyed Donna's vocals on the 73/74 versions.

La-La is pretty bad, the last few minutes or so of it are a bit interesting, but the rest goes nowhere.
