Guess I could start a new thread, but my favorite show, while also running into Paul (and a few other VCers) was at a Tweedy solo show up in Fish Creek, Wisconsin in 2011. The show was off the beaten path, so it was nice to run into people I 'knew'. I am not much of a talker - so I probably didn't say anything, maybe a hello - I just remember pointing him out to my wife and telling her he goes to lots of shows. That was a great weekend of camping and milling around town, after the Friday night show. A great setlist, too. (I don't think a tape

Hey a Via Chicago shout out by Paul --- the wife and I were at that Red Rocks show -- remember standing in line, too. The Kicking Television opener was indeed great.

I have never had any issues finding street parking. You may have to walk a few blocks. South of Lawrence - in between Clark and Broadway - north of Wilson, is normally where we park. Sometimes we get lucky due north behind the Green Mill or by the old Uptown Theater. Other than Thalia Hall - I always found the Riv to be the easiest place to find parking. I was there this past November and we happen to park right in front of Carol's Pub - about a 10 minute walk from the RIv. It was about two weeks after Wilco played there. Also the Lawrence Red Line stop is closed

It'll be great to get back to the Riv to see a run. https://pitchfork.com/news/wilco-announce-2023-spring-tour-north-america/

Nice play on words by Pat (or whomever came up with it). "Brokedown Palace". This has been fun, thus far. 8:15am CT BAROQUE DOWN PALACE with PATRICK SANSONE Wilco’s Patrick Sansone explores the use of harpsichord in pop and soul music through the 60’s and into the 70’s.

Two episodes into The English on Prime, definitely shot nicely. Interesting lead character - the whole Indian - US Soldier duality. Also started watching the sitcom The Inbetweeners (British) - nice way to unwind down from The English.

Yeah, I have that too. The Allmans have issued some nice sets over the years. The Brothers and Sister box is a great one, too.

What Do You Listen To for Christmas & the Holiday Season?
calvino replied to kidsmoke's topic in Someone Else's Song
Bob Dylan's Christmas in the Heart is the 1st music we play every season on the way picking up our tree. From there, while in the car, the kid's have me put on 93.9 -- our Chicago station that goes Christmas, right after Thanksgiving. I find it dreadful --- but it is they only time of the year I let them pick - so I roll with it. I do have a lot of old Christmas records that I use to listen to when I was kid -- those are always fun spinning. Below is one of my favorites -- still plays pretty good. -
Well I tried. Carry on.

I don't give a crap either way about discussing things ----- though I must admit the whole Fred thing is dumb and getting old -- but to each their own. It's just hard trying to have a legit discussion about about a band, when right off the bat someone is using a dumb name for the band - maybe use it once to prove your point, then move on. The MSG set is decent thus far - listened to first 81 show (10/9/81) and last show in the set (10/12/83). As expected, the sound quality is definitely not the best, due to the masters - but it definitely sounds ok. The liner notes thus far are gr

I wouldn't mind catching them again, too. Looking forward to the getting of Wish on vinyl, too.

Got the MSG 81/82/83 set today. It is a long sucker. Looking forward to digging in.

Joe Russo's Almost Dead at the Riv. ---- I think the last time I was at the Riv was to see Wilco in 2014.

Also, Tweedy probably wishes he was hip as the Grateful Dead is now. Regardless of liking their music or not -- one should at least admire that Weir, Kreutzmann, Hart and others are still filling up stadiums 27 years after Garcia died. For me it about the tunes that they wrote, but again to each their own.

I by no means was offended (if you were talking about me) ----- to each there own when it comes to music. Members of the National and Bob Weir have played together. Weir put out a record called Blue Mountain with some of the members. Saw a show with while Weir was supporting the record --- a great show. Must admit I was not familiar with any of his backing band and they all sounded pretty great. https://pitchfork.com/news/67639-grateful-deads-bob-weir-shares-new-song-with-the-national-members-listen/

I am a Deadhead -- I don't see any correlation between the two bands. Tweedy and Cline played with Phil Lesh over the summer and they must have enjoyed playing "U.S. Blues" that night, thus they put in it their set, I don't think there is anymore to it. Over the years they have played a cover at the end of their set - so I don't think it anthing nothing new. I was at the Phil show that night and I thought the band's version of U.S. Blues was the weakest song of the night. When I read that Wilco played it in their own set, I was skeptical -- then I heard their version

We finished the 1st season of White Lotus, last night --- it kind of petered out the last few episodes. Must admit, I am glad it was only 6 episodes. Could not get attached to any of the characters.

Dark Star Orchestra --- last time I saw these guys was 1998. Must admit we left after the 1st set because we were bored. Pretty crazy that they are celebrating this 25th anniversary this year --- which is great. Guess today is the actual 25th anniversary of their 1st show -- so it should be pretty special.

Cool - would like to see your thoughts afterwards. I hardly go to concerts now a days - figures two gigs on the same night would pop up. I am seeing a completely opposite type of band -- Dark Star Orchestra (plays Grateful Dead tunes).

They are playing a living room show very near me tomorrow night --- but of course I already had tickets for another show tomorrow night. Would have been cool to go.

U2's All That You Can't Leave Behind was a solid effort 20 years in. Their live show may have peaked in 2000, too ---- at least that Boston release from that tour is my favorite live dvd release of the theirs (though technically that was a 2001 performance). Presently listening to Teenage's Fanclub's - Shadows. Another one 20 years in -- saw them in 2010, they were putting on a great, solid show.
