Going in the opposite direction this afternoon while watching the Indians/Blue Jays game -- listening to By Your Side -- it has it's moments - I do enjoy Rich's playing throughout. That was one of the draw backs to last night -- Chris's guitar playing is pedestrian at best - he had some decent links every now and then. He did take a few solo's and Casal's rhythm playing was always far more interesting to Chris's rhythm playing. Now onto 2/6/93 - a FM source tape.

Yeah, the bass player is definitely a straight ahead bass player - but it suited the music fine, last night. Also he was ok in the mix, last night.

I am still waiting on getting the new one from my library, so I only heard the live versions of the new tunes, thus far.

With regards to Kerouac, I always enjoyed Big Sur and the Subterraneans. I have re-read Big Sur a few times and it holds up a bit, haven't read the Subterraneans in a long while - 25 years or so. It does seem like Kerouac is a young person's game...which is fine. Carver is great.

Saw the CRB last night in Chicago -- real solid show. Decent crowd, but not a sell out. Casal is just amazing on guitar the new bass player is decent at laying the groove. Adam's keyboards didn't bug me too much, other then when he played the Moog, it needed to be tempered in the mix, but last night he didn't over play it at all, which is good. Also the back up singing was always spot on. No banter from Chris at all, just a few thank you's scattered about. Also found out - after the show - that Betty Cantor-Jackson was in the house recording -- I would have made a point to search for her

Yeah - that's one of the draws going to the show - looking forward to the venue. Also, it's a plus that I don't have to deal with the Loop/Lake Shore and the North Side for a change (I am coming from the South Side).

The Chris Robinson Brotherhood at the Thalia Hall (in Chicago). Never been at this venue before, nor seen the band before - looking forward to show and grabbing some tacos before the show - the venue is in the Pilsen neighborhood.

The below link has the announcement, in the middle of the piece. Never seen an announcement before, rather odd way that they do it. The interview at the end of the video was pretty good - the whole does he deserve it bit, -- "well of course he does, he just got it". It's seems like the European press hasn't change much since the 60s - the interview with the Nobel representative seems a lot like one from the 65 or 66 tour with Dylan. Recently I saw a piece on TV about a new documentary on the Austin shooting. Haven't seen the documentary, yet - but it looks very interesting. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/10/12/movies/tower-review-mass-shootings.html?_r=0 All the cuts in mental health in the state of Illinois and throughout the country and the relative ease of obtaining guns, it's a wonder that this type of stuff doesn't happen more often (obviously shootings happen too often as it is...)

I don't remember that back story in 84 or more than likely I forgot. That's crazing. Really crazy - surprised they were able to do that - guess it must have been in the rules for the league to do that.

Of course I went to bed - glad the Cubs won, though - wasn't looking forward to a Game 5 against Cuento, with the likely hood of Bumgarner coming out of of pen.

The below is kinda cool - I guess this a last minute addition, the guitar player from the National had to drop out, due to a family emergency. At least I will be familiar with someone else on stage, beside Weir. I do like the new album. Nicely produced and good tunes.

Keith Richards always talks about how they really had to learn to play live due the advances in the stage sound for the 69 tour. PA's and such. People could actually hear the concert in the space. I would definitely credit the Dead and Bear for this - I think they were one of first groups to travel with their own sound system. It would have been interesting to hear how the Beatles would have sounded with a decent concert sound system. Too bad they started to splinter within, while all the concert sound techniques were advancing.

Yeah - on the 4.13.66 set that I have, Dylan vocals are way out front in the 2nd set. They did a good job with Bootleg Vol. 4 - hopefully they spent some time cleaning the shows up. With the price point, I doubt the spent a lot of time, though. I think Dylan did have small on stage monitor - from pictures that I have seen --- need to find it, though.

Yeah, but I like the set lists better in 66 - you are right, though - it's ragged. I re-listened to the Sydney show from 4/13/66, today --- the 1st set is pretty great, hopefully the 2nd set is cleaned up in the box set - my version doesn't sound all that great.

Yeah, set list wise it looks great - though I never liked Frankenstein. I don't think I have listen to the show, though. I do listen to the 98 Madison show from time to time.

It was a shorter run of seeing them for me, 94-98. Had tickets for a 4 night run in November, 98 (Madison, WI and 3 in Chicago); on the morning of the 4th show, I gave my ticket to my friend who I was going to the shows with. Don't remember exactly why, but I guess I had enough. My friend traded my ticket for some decent smoke in the lot, so he was happy.

Rift and Junta are my favorites. I bought the HD download of Junta last year - it does sound great. It must have been 90 or 91 when a friend gave me dubbed copy of Junta - played the hell of the tape. I stopped going to shows in 98 - than started listening and seeing them again in 2013.
