Keith Richards always talks about how they really had to learn to play live due the advances in the stage sound for the 69 tour. PA's and such. People could actually hear the concert in the space. I would definitely credit the Dead and Bear for this - I think they were one of first groups to travel with their own sound system. It would have been interesting to hear how the Beatles would have sounded with a decent concert sound system. Too bad they started to splinter within, while all the concert sound techniques were advancing.

I found the below via the Hoffman board - not sure if it is used during the sound check or the actual concert. Great thread on the 66 tour over there.

I could be wrong - need to find out.

Yeah - on the 4.13.66 set that I have, Dylan vocals are way out front in the 2nd set. They did a good job with Bootleg Vol. 4 - hopefully they spent some time cleaning the shows up. With the price point, I doubt the spent a lot of time, though. I think Dylan did have small on stage monitor - from pictures that I have seen --- need to find it, though.

Yeah, but I like the set lists better in 66 - you are right, though - it's ragged. I re-listened to the Sydney show from 4/13/66, today --- the 1st set is pretty great, hopefully the 2nd set is cleaned up in the box set - my version doesn't sound all that great.
-
Yeah, set list wise it looks great - though I never liked Frankenstein. I don't think I have listen to the show, though. I do listen to the 98 Madison show from time to time.
-
It was a shorter run of seeing them for me, 94-98. Had tickets for a 4 night run in November, 98 (Madison, WI and 3 in Chicago); on the morning of the 4th show, I gave my ticket to my friend who I was going to the shows with. Don't remember exactly why, but I guess I had enough. My friend traded my ticket for some decent smoke in the lot, so he was happy.

Rift and Junta are my favorites. I bought the HD download of Junta last year - it does sound great. It must have been 90 or 91 when a friend gave me dubbed copy of Junta - played the hell of the tape. I stopped going to shows in 98 - than started listening and seeing them again in 2013.

Billy Breathes was the last studio record I bought, actually my wife purchased it. I have the new one reserved at the library - now I need to hear to hear how bad it is.

Yeah -- I was rooting for the Giants last night, but kept thinking about the whole even year stuff. Bumgarner is just amazing to watch -- nice to see a former White Sox player (Connor Gillaspie) come through in the clutch.

From NPR - "In this concert, filmed at OPB in Portland, Ore., the long-running rock band Drive-By Truckers performs its timely and politically charged new record, American Band, in its entirety." http://www.npr.org/event/music/496689769/first-listen-live-drive-by-truckers-american-band?utm_campaign=storyshare&utm_source=facebook.com&utm_medium=social

The show is on Panic Streams, at least I think this is the show - 12/9/83 http://www.panicstream.net/vault/jerry-garcia-band-120983-new-york-ny/

Sounds like it was hoot.

I asked all my in-laws this past weekend, who are all St. Louis Cardinal fans, if they are going to root for the Cubs in the playoffs -- they all said no. I would think that they would want them to win it all, so we all don't have to keep talking about them not winning the Series since 1908. As a White Sox fan, I am tired of hearing about it. I'll be for rooting for the Cubs. Just have to figure out how I going to watch the games via Roku.

The set list stayed pretty much the same all tour, so I am sure it will be the same.
-
A member of Dylan's current band or a member of the Band (Robertson, etc.) - that's kind of messed up. Do they sell the shows through a legitimate record company to the public or as a bootleg?
-
Plus I wonder if the taper will get some type of compensation or at least get credit on the liner notes. Hoping to read about how Sony/Columbia acquired the tapes, too, in the liner notes. Perhaps a collector sold the masters to them. I am sure the back story is out there already - I just don't know it. Of course, maybe Sony/Columbia just downloaded the audience recordings off of Dime. I don't think I heard an audience recording of any of the 66 shows - the only ones I have are sbd's.
-
Well I ordered the Live 66 box --- $108, not too bad. I haven't bought any Dylan archival releases in a while - thanks to my library system. Don't think the library is going to spring for this, though.
-
Interesting that they are releasing audience recordings, too. Since I am sucker for live recordings and if the price is reasonable, I will probably get this. So for it is only up in the UK. (info from the Hoffman board)

That should read 3/17/06 After reading your post, I was thinking to myself how did I miss hearing about a 2016 Ratdog tour...

My wife and friend saw the Femmes back in July in Chicago - they both enjoyed it quite a bit. Neither of seen them since the early 90's and thought they still put a great show, though they were not familiar anything post 92 or so. It was a benefit show for Coalition for the Homeless.

His Arnold Palmer drink happen to make it on the Simpsons season premier last night, too.
-
Seems like Let it Grow is extremely fast on the 9.23.82 show - a ripping version. Maybe, that's typical for 82. Very peppy version of Touch of Grey, too.
-
I listened to this one again this morning -- one of my favorites.

I always preferred the studio version of We Can Run -- actually I prefer all the studio cuts of Brent's Built to Last tunes to the live versions. Just A Little Light was okay live.
