Definitely agree with the 1st statement. I am a liberal pinko and I have some negative opinions on the President. But with regards to the 2nd - below is the statement issued by the President - where does he write about "grabbing guns"? He may have talked about it elsewhere in another statement or speech, but when I read the below - I don't get the sense the government wants to and will be "grabbing guns". More regulation, perhaps - but "grabbing guns" I don't see. I am guessing you are reading the section in bold and interpreting it as "grabbing guns".

Did you make it to the Dead & Co. show, Lammycat?

What about classroom training on shooting one? Grant it, you can buy a bunch of rounds and go to range and have shooting practice -- but is that training one to properly own a gun or how just aim a gun?
-
I didn't mean anything by the "gun school" jargon -- I just mean classes in gun self defense. But one doesn't have to take any classes like that to own a gun, correct? Again I am not baiting here - just curious --- I have never owned a gun. But I think if I ever decide to get one to protect my family, I would take some classes and was wondering what is taught in those classes. I brought this up, because of the whole home invasion stuff. And again I am not baiting - but I am guessing what was taught about guns in the arm forces is different than what is taught in a self defense/home invas

So that is what is taught in gun school --- process the situation. I am assuming the law, in the vast many states, that any intruder, armed or not armed, is a 'legal' target.
-
Would it matter if the intruder is armed or not armed? Curious - is one taught in gun school to shoot at any intruder, whether the intruder is armed or not? Does one look for gun first or ask if the intruder if they are armed or tell the intruder that you are armed?

Back to the whole Republican debacle - at least Kasich, his super-PAC and supporters are airing commercials against Trump's (and in essence the rest of the front runners') rhetoric. Hopefully the rest of the Party comes to its senses.

What's the Stupidest Thing You Ever Did as a Kid?

Well at least the Lincoln had a huge hood - probably 3 or 4 of your other friends could have joined you and you all would have been fine. -

One of the stupidest things I ever did was not buying the above - with the 3D and all - when I came across it at a flea market. I had the regular record already and I think I was still collecting baseball cards - so I think I bought baseball cards with my money, instead of the record. -
While Jeff Chimenti is not the virtuoso like Bruce H. on piano - Jeff definitely holds his own -- plus he great on the B-3 organ (which obviously Bruce doesn't play) and he really knows the tunes. He played pretty great in Saint Louis.

Well worth the slight travel and dough to see the Dead & Co. in Saint Louis. Musically - far better than the Fare Thee Well shows. Great shakedown prior to the show in a park across the Soldiers Memorial Military Museum and of course they opened with Shakedown Street. Mayer fits in real well, esp. on the Sugaree. Everyone played great for the packed rink - no hideous flubs by anyone. Mickey, Billy, and Oteil sounded great together - must admit, I didn't miss Lesh in the slightest. Also enjoyed both Weir and Mayer trading vocal leads on various songs, like Terrapin. Weir did sound gre

Of course Al Kooper got his story out - where hasn't he gotten that story out. (I admit it's a pretty good story, but enough already.)

I was up to "Pack Up the Plantation" when my wife booted me off her Spotify account so she can listen to something else while at her office - the nerve...anyway I was enjoying the horns on it. That 4 cd Live set is a great one - plus it's cheap, I think I picked up a used set for $10 or so.
-
Though you are right - it is cheaper to see DSO than D&C -- but after fees, it usually around $40 or so to see DSO when they pass through Chicago -- to me that's too much money for a cover band. I think I am paying around $60 (with fees) to see D&C this Friday ---- granted it's at a hockey rink and I will be up in the mezzanine, while DSO will be playing a small, great theater (The Vic) - I rather pay the extra $20 to see Bobby, Billy, and Mickey (with others).

Nixon broadcasts on XM's Outlaw Country --- enjoy his show - but his levels on his microphone are way to loud --- every time he comes out of a song - I have to reach for the volume. He did a great job in the interview with Zanes, from what bits I heard. Petty's show is great, too -- he plays a lot great tunes and obviously he has great stories.

Finally got around to check out the Runnin' Down a Dream dvd over the last couple of nights - definitely a great doc. The author of the new bio was on with Mojo Nixon's radio show last week - caught some of it - and that sounds like it should be a great book. Anybody know the period when Petty was hooked on heroin -- from watching the Runnin doc - I'm guessing during the Echo record and divorce. Could be way off, though. Watching the footage of Howie Epstein was brutal. Must admit, I have more respect for Stan Lynch prior to watching the doc -- of course I never much thought of him prior

Never listened to Neko's earliest records before -- right out of the gate, she started out pretty great with Virginia. (listening via Spotify)

Been listening to the 11/10/15 Worcester show this morning - definitely a good one. Oteil is nicely in the mix. https://archive.org/details/deadandco2015-11-10.dpa4011.flac24

Last night, I bought and listened to the 2 disc "The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12" - obviously great stuff and per usual the liner notes are great. It's pretty cool that Bill Flanagan handles the Bringing Home and HWY 61 stuff, then he throws it to Sean Wilentz for the Blonde on Blonde material. Definitely wish I could have fork out the dough for the 18 cd set ----but for $14.99 at Best Buy - the 2 CD set is a steal. Wish they would do a 2 CD set of just stuff from the Blonde on Blonde sessions or hell they could do a 2 CD set from each of three album sessions. (each

Ford was on Fresh Air last week or so, nice interview - reading "Independence Day" now --- I read the Sportswriter a long while ago. I have the 3rd book on my bookshelf.

That's what Gans said, too, on the radio show.

I will probably ending up getting it (Gans/Jackson book) too -- these days I tend to check it out first and if I like it and think I will refer to it, often, I end up buying it. My library is a three minute walk from my house, so if my actual library has it in the stacks, it's usually readily available. Plus it's always a nice excuse to get out the house when the family is getting on each other nerves -- i can make it to the library and grab a pint at the pub and be back home in about 25 minutes...not that it happens often (the pub part). I never gotten around buying Playing in the Band,

I have the Jackson/Gans book on reserve at my library -- looking forward to it. Gans was talking about the book on this past Tales show (XM Radio) -- it has been getting great reviews from various journals -- which made him happy, because it probably will lead to library systems picking it up. Hopefully my library system will pick up the new Garcia book, too. (Just checked at least one library in my system will be getting the Garcia book)

DylanRadio.com has been playing some tracks off the 18 disc version -- just heard a pretty cool Queen Jane. Queen Jane Approximately (take 2, 8/02/1965, complete)

That would be just exactly perfect!
