Leroy Bach era: How To Fight Loneliness into Not For The Season or the Poor Places/Reservations/I Am Trying To Break Your Heart/War On War combo they'd do. With this lineup I'd say either Ashes or In a Future Age. --Mike

Though like all great rock critics DeRogatis can be a bit insufferable, he's at his best in this book. Throughout he basically weaves almost the entire history of rock under the umbrella of psych, and considers stuff like the first two Velvets albums, Eno, Bowie, XTC, The Talking Heads, and almost all of the bands PopTodd mentioned, and even Yankee Hotel Foxtrot era Wilco into his canon. I love that the teacher included The Misunderstood on his essential list of that era, he or she either really likes that band or is familiar with the rock hipster technique always make sure you have at leas

My avatar will be making its annual change in a few weeks. I know they are now two and a half games out of the AFC North, but I am still not ready to give up on the Ravens yet. I wouldn't be shocked if they beat any of those four teams even on the road. They're schedule gets a little smoother after they play Denver this week, and they could easily push for the second Wild Card spot in the AFC. --Mike

Sounds a lot like the school spirit of Wheeling Jesuit University. I may have told this story before, but one time during a basketball game with our "rivals" West Liberty, I was out walking across campus. A truck full of West Lib students passed me and one of them shouted out "Jesuit sucks!" I turned around and yelled back "Yeah, I know, I go here." But back to Olaf, the fight song is awesome. I made two Olaf fans (who were 60 something alums actually) teach it to me, when I went to the Thomas/Olaf game in September. --Mike

He's number 55 in that picture. Btw, since the no real living person rule went on the books the actual Speed Racer has been constantly e-mailing me complaining that someone is using his name. He, Racer X, and the monkey have all threatened legal action. --Mike

Yeah, we were late getting in because of the traffic clusterf--k and missed most of the first half, but got to watch the game from the hill on the far sideline, so the overtime plays happened right in front of us. Excellent game and St. John's has a gorgeous campus, it would have certainly been on my radar if I had grown up in the midwest. Missing the Thomas game today because WVU is playing at noon at winning 7-0 at this very moment. --Mike

That's a damn fine top two, good sir. Should Sansone ever decide to take his windmilling elsewhere. Former Steely Dan sideman/Doobie Brothers frontman Michael McDonald is currently available for keyboards and backing vocals. I'd be more than up for it. My goal with this post is to give jesusetc84 a stroke, btw. --Mike

Solitaire and Bull Black Nova would rank among the best tracks I've heard this year. --Mike

It works fine as a double for me, but if I had to switch things up I'd knock the Sesame Street Outtamind off for No More Poetry and squeeze Blasting Fonda on it as well. --Mike

I have this at number four on my best of the decade list right now (I really think it's that good), and Ys is looking over it's shoulder pretty nervously. --Mike

Try this one out if you haven't yet: Califone's All My Friends Are Funeral Singers. --Mike

This has to be a bit right? --Mike

Yeah, The Painters might get my vote as well. Grace Cathedral Park is one of my favorite songs ever. When did Galaxie 500 put out albums? Where they late 80's or early 90's? If Smog (basically just Bill Callahan) counts as a band, they deserve a mention as well, and I'll put in a word for Red Red Meat. --Mike

Califone and Wilco. --Mike

How great is the dish washer scene? My jaw was on the floor when that ended. --Mike

Can I count Elliott Smith as a band? --Mike

Just sounds like Wes had a very clear creative vision for the project and was roped in with some people that weren't used to the way he does things. Seems like a non-story story, but maybe Bill Murray has rubbed off on him a little bit. Edit: Wes Anderson Responds To 'Fox' Controversy, Admits To Tensions, But Says DP Relationships Are Fine --Mike

I'll be there. Is it pretty easy to walk up and get tickets and get in on a game day? --Mike

I love the man. He was one of the first non-Beatle musicians I really got into. In fact I think his greatest hits was the first record I got that wasn't either by the Beatles or by a solo Beatle. I can' hear a Donovan song and not be in a better mood than I was before I heard it. Re: Dylan v. Donovan. Donovan for me gets a lot more interesting when his records started bringing in more chamber and full rock band instrumentation. Still, while it's hard to argue "Catch The Wind" is as good as early Dylan, he's certainly one of the best "next Bob Dylans" in pop music history. --Mike
