  1. I just got this from Nonesuch: Dear Customer: You were charged $24 for the package of CD, vinyl and 7" single. For bookkeeping purposes, the cost was distributed over the items, $5.00 of which was applied to the 7" single. You will be charged the remaining $19.00 when the remainder of your items ship. The single was available on 6/20/09 and the full album will be available on 6/30/09. This is why your items are shipping separately. Sincerely,
  2. I was seven in 1982 and Thriller was the first LP that I ever bought. My first argument about music was with my best friend at the time. I insisted that Beat It was a better song than Billy Jean. He took the other side of the debate. (Hundreds of?) thousands of LPs and CDs and arguments (with and without beer) later, I still have that first LP. I took it out last night and held it for a little while. RIP, Michael.
  3. Fuuuuuuck. I got an email saying the 7" had shipped, and I emailed Nonesuch to see what the 411 was. I haven't heard back from them so I told myself that it must have been a typo in the email and that both had shipped.
  4. Fuck you, cancer. RIP Farrah.
  5. Loved it. I wish I could start every day with some live Wilco waiting for me on my DVR.
  6. This may be the crowning achievement of mankind. ETA: Sorry thankyoufornothingatall -- I was talking about the website. I haven't listened to your song. I am sure your song is very impressive, but likely not the crowning achievement of mankind.
  7. Jesus christ. My heart is in my throat. I don't think I will ever hear that song the same way again. You've just simultaneously ruined and immortalized the song for me.
  8. The buzz would not have lasted longer if we all waited for June 30. The buzz was insane around here when the leak occurred. The same exact buzz, for the same length, would have occured on and after June 30 if we had just heard it first then. Not really sure what you are sad about. In fact, there will probably be an uptick in buzz again on June 30. Meaning there will be two periods of buzz. Of course, the second period will be much less than the first.
  9. No, you are right. I wasn't debating that specific point. And that's why I referenced that I will spin it nonstop again when I get the vinyl. I think the lull in discussion about the new album is more a factor of being in a dead spot on the calendar. Enough time has passed since the leak, and we don't have the official release yet. LouieB's lament sounded (to me) like a typical complaint about generation Y (or is it Z these days?) or our remote control culture where people demand instantaneous gratification and then drop it after their quick fix. No one is done with W(TA).
  10. Nah, I don't buy it. For all intents and purposes (for this crowd, at least), this album was released on the day it leaked. Folks here were insane for a good two weeks after the leak. I am still loving the album but enough time has passed that it has settled into the larger Wilco catalog. And I am sure that I (and others) will spin it nonstop as soon as the vinyl hits my mailbox. The official release date is a pure fiction. This has nothing to do with mp3s and release dates. If we were all forced to wait for the release date, the same exact thing would have happened, but it would have
  11. I will be the first to admit that it may be completely inappropriate to be interested in how/why Jay died. But there are a lot of people here who cared deeply about a lot of the things that Jay did in his life. And many of those folks are struggling with how/why someone as young as Jay could just pass away in his sleep. That doesn't mean that they have the right to an answer, but I can understand why folks are asking. Life doesn't make sense and that's hard to accept. An answer to the question will not make life easier to understand, but I know why people are asking. I don't think it sho
  12. I finished IJ in March and I am reading it again for infinitesummer. I am trying to ignore the scary parallels. Anyone else reading it this summer? This infinitesummer.org site seems to be pretty well organized.
  13. awesome! Be sure to post pics so that I/we can live vicariously through you.
  14. thanks for the review, MB. Sounds like you had a really nice time. Sorry to hear you bailed, but it sounds like I would have done the same. When you are with the family, it's a whole different ballgame. Hope we get to catch a show one of these days (years).
  15. Yeah I was at the show, but I am being a wiseass because I figured most people got the lame joke I was making. It is in no way, shape, or form the definitive version of the song. And there ain't no masses that it would spread joy to. I was just lucky enough to be standing next to Jeff with a guitar in my hand during the tune. Ignore me. I was serious about respecting Jeff's (and Sue's) wishes, though. I want to do what they want to have done. End of story. There's really no debate to be had so far as I see it. Even if some of the counterpoints are valid, and that releasing these show
  16. It saddens me that (what I consider to be) the definitive version of Someone Else's Song (4/5/08) will not spread joy among the masses, but I respect Jeff's wishes, and I applaud the removal of this show from the information superhighway. Thanks A-Man. And Bart, in all seriousness, you are right that unapproved recordings occur all the time these days. I think you referenced Dylan? The point is that this is a group of folks that wants to respect Jeff's wishes. End of story. What happens among other groups of "fans" in other situations is irrelevant. This group wants to do the right thi
  17. Sometimes I Wish I Were An Eagle is so much better than everything everyone has listed. Yes, everything. And yes, everyone.
  18. You forgot to post this article, too, futureage1: 10 large US banks to repay $68B in TARP funds http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5hUHNfLhMcbOi5mBiHEfz8ZB9f-IAD98SLS880
  19. Can you recommend some for me to check out?
  20. God, I love Nettie Moore so much it hurts.
  21. Not that this would make it any better if Jeff never gave permission, but I do know that the most recent show that I attended was edited before it was sent to the folks that attended the show. And any banter that was even questionable never made it onto the recording. Like I said, not that this would make it any better.
  22. I still believe that Tweedy's version of Someone Else's Song from the Living Room Show on 4/5/08 is the definitive version. I bet he'd agree. Maybe not.
  23. I can understand where that Pitchfork article is coming from. I certainly hear bits of other eels output on these songs. So, sure, it's not a vast departure or reinvention in any sense. And you know what? I don't care. I dig it. And I'd be reading a review (either on Pitchfork or elsewhere) complaining that E changed "too much" or for the worse, if this was more experimental or whatever other people demand of artists.
