Anyone on the fence on McGwire's HOF status swayed one way or the other now?

It's to the point where I am afraid to click on the link when this one is at the top of the page.

I am beginning to think that this is all one big joke that the entire world is playing on me. Everyone is in on it but me.

I am sure that avatar resonated with me on a level that I didnt even know for that reason.

I am so tired of Ron Paul. The guy has gotten very good at being contrarian knowing all the while that he can continue to call for policies that he will never have to answer for and will never be tested in the light of day. We are in the midst of a recession that is bad, and will likely get worse, no matter what this Administration does. There's no way that we will ever know what these bailouts have prevented, but it's entirely possible that they prevented the virtual collapse of our financial system. And yet, because we are still suffering through a recession, we get to listen to Ron Paul

Yeah everyone loves the guy so much that I assumed he'd get a nomination for screenplay or best director just for showing up. Even if (or maybe because!) no one understood the movie or it was boring. Not even a nomination? I trust TheBunk, but this uniform dislike is making me curious.

I am confused. Was my friend the only one who liked Synecdoche, NY? Because I am going to have to knock him upside the head for being so earnest in his recommendation if everyone else in the free world hated it.

I go back and forth between headphones and stereo speakers. I find that the nuances and lyrics that people seem to miss has to do with short attention spans and the fact that music is now the soundtrack/background music to the rest of our lives. So few people put on a record, and then sit on their couch, and listen. Without also reading, typing, surfing, working, etc. Headphones are great and allow for you to pick up different nuances as mentioned above, but I'd say that actively listening, is the reason that you pick up more nuance. You can do that with headphones or stereo speakers.

I hear this said often about the office of the president. I am not sure I follow the line of thinking. The guy didn't have to run for president. He did. The people put him there. He works for the people. He is there to serve the people's best interests. As far as I am concerned, the people can do or say whatever they want vis-a-vis the president. Sure, it's tacky, and I wouldn't do it, but I can't criticize people for voicing their displeasure for a president with paltry approval ratings, whose vice president went on the NewsHour last week to say that they don't govern to the polls. He's worth it.

No, you aren't too late. Duly noted. Thanks.

I have seen exactly zero movies this year (new infant son = no time for movies). One of my friends implored me to go see Synecdoche NY if I had one movie to see this year. I remember reading a review of it in the Times that was equally effusive. I take it few others agree? I only ask because if I've got one movie in my future, I gotta make sure I make the right call.

No kidding. On both counts.

Is it possible to make music and not be influenced by the Beatles? (consciously or subconsciously)

I went to my local shop yesterday to buy this on LP to see what all the fuss is about and they didn't have it. I asked at the counter and the guy basically laughed. He said not only were they sold out, but they sold out the first day the LP was released. And not only were they sold out, but the entire first pressing of the album is sold out. He said there is another pressing and they should be receiving more soon. They sold 100 albums on the day it came out. He said he's never seen this much hoopla over an LP.

Kin A! post it.

kickass, man.

Hmm. I see that too now. This also surprises me, as I thought we don't let geese live here.

I am impressed that no one here made what appeared to be, once everyone was confirmed safe, the obvious joke, on a message board devoted to music, about A Flock of Seagulls.

thanks VC. I need something to drown out the ear-shattering hum of the fluorescent lights above me. I won't ever go drinking again.
