  1. Exactly. Remember when Sir Paul said (in '67) "If we could just get all the heads of state together and take LSD we might be able to bring about world peace"? A noble, but ultimately naive and dumb thought. This is way off-topic, but Martin Lee's book Acid Dreams is a wonderful expose' on that period of time. Really recommended reading if you're interested. OK - back to the topic at hand - I'm in a self-induced frenzy over all of this VP speculation. I think I've been (literally and figuratively) "perma-spun".
  2. Well b2, being born 10 years too late I have somewhat of a romanticized notion of sixties counterculture. Probably due to me taking a hell of a lot of LSD when I was just a child. It really was mostly a facetious statement*. * just in case I'm being "monitored".
  3. Really not a good day for Johnny B. Goode.
  4. Happy Birthday man! I hope that budding Chef-to-be son whips up some tasty cuisine for you!
  5. Shit man, I'd vote FOR Obama because he's friends with Bill Ayers. I wonder what those sunsabitches would think about that!
  6. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones has passed on. A sad day folks - she chaired the ethics committee, and the first black woman ever on the Ways & Means. Condolences to the family, and her constituents. I read where fellow Cleveland Congressman Dennis Kucinich was visibly upset at the news - they were among the very few in '02 to openly oppose the Iraq War.
  7. Let's all take a minute and say a prayer/send vibes to a great lady - Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs-Jones had a brain aneurysm this morning and is in critical condition in Cleveland. A real fighter, and one of the good ones on the Hill. Stephanie, I'm rooting for ya.
  8. We expected nothing less old bean. And yes, it might be the greatest thread in the history of the internets, but just a friendly little reminder to you so you don't forget, ok? AM BT ST YHF AGIB SBS
  9. "I'm Bill Maher, and I approve of this thread" I did vote, Loretta.
  10. Biden evidently said "I'm not the guy". Four words - gotta be a record for him to utter such a short statement. I guess some cameras caught him a couple of hours later and he was saying "I don't really know, etc. etc.." So, who knows? I'm totally OK with Senator Joe. I'm well aware of his potential liabilities, but I also have always been a fan of his. I wonder why the early speculation over Dodd has waned? And I'm with MrRain - we don't need Bayh to be the choice, and I don't have the time or the energy to list the dozens of reasons why.
  11. I've always thought that Genesis' "Afterglow" is a beautiful love song (sort of love song).
  12. In general I'm a fan of road testing tunes, especially if they're more experimental in nature. Early versions can be very different from the finished product, and can provide lively discussion among fans as to what seems to work and what doesn't. I saw both One Wing and Sunny Feeling in Indy and they seemed to be a little too close to SBS for my tastes, but that doesn't mean that the germ of the idea might not come to be a monster in the studio. No rush guys - take your time. We're a patient lot.
  13. Very nice of you hardwood. Now I guess I'll go consult the Bible (deadbase, compendium)
  14. I do remember when FM was a cool place to go - especially late at night. MTV never really impressed me too much, but shows like the great New Wave Theatre was a godsend in the early '80s. Thanks to this place I have been turned on to many fine bands - most notably Califone, and Tortoise. Thanks folks.
  15. Yes. I'm sort of "local", and I try to patronize the place as much as possible. In fact, Garaj Mahal is gonna be there on the 30th - that will be a good one to catch!
  16. You have EVERY '72 show? Damn! PM on the way!
  17. 8 pages of thread, and this was the only thing that resonated with me. OK - carry on, peeps.
  18. For some reason this is not what I think Gil Scott-Heron had in mind.
  19. The Clifford Ball, Plattsburgh Air Force Base, Plattsburgh NY 8/16/96 I: Chalk Dust Torture, Bathtub Gin, Ya Mar, AC/DC Bag, Esther, Divided Sky, Halley's Comet > David Bowie II: Split Open And Melt, Sparkle, Free, The Squirming Coil, Waste, Talk, Train Song, Strange Design, Hello My Baby, Mike's Song > Simple > Contact > Weekapaug Groove III: Makisupa Policeman, 2001 > Down With Disease > NICU, Life On Mars? Harry Hood > Fireworks Jam E: Amazing Grace Notes: Waste through Strange Design were performed on the acoustic mini-stage. Disease was unfinished. Great,
  20. Even though the 7/26/72 show isn't the first thing you'd think of when discussing killer '72 shows, this one has some gems. I've always loved the Dark Star from this show, and the Comes A Time that it goes into is very sweet. The following banter gives me the impression that Monsieur Lesh might have been at the blow just a bit: Bobby: As you might have noticed, Pigpen isn't with us tonight. He's back home sick, and recovering... Phil (sounding very smarmy): Yeah, yeah, we'll send along your best wishes to him...if that's OK with you.
