  1. Thanks moe for the post. Now, go bust out that 6/26/95 and listen to one of the sickest DWDs ever done!
  2. Get out your Farfisa organs kids - it's time for 96 Tears.
  3. Very nice post, q23. I hope things work out for you. As I've said before I found meditation to be very helpful to me.
  4. A few months ago I saw that show on C-SPAN where there's a room full of bright high schoolers who ask questions of the guest. Scalia was on for the full hour and I don't know if I've ever seen a more arrogant, condescending person. Sick-making.
  5. That's a very solid 100 minutes there. Thanks for the link.
  6. If y'all haven't seen this yet - here 'tis. It's so freakin' bad, it's good. > God, I HATE that guy
  7. I saw Miles at Clowes Hall in Indy around '86/'87. 3rd row DFC. He was near the end, of course, but that band was certainly smokin' - Robben Ford on guitar was a real motherfucker (to use one of Mr. Davis' highest compliments).
  8. Right on, brother. When he spoke (at great length) last winter on this it was some riveting stuff. I was yelling and cheering at the TV like I was watching a ball game.
  9. 6/24/85 - River Bend Music Center, Cincinnati OH I: Alabama > Greatest, TLEO, Minglewood, Tennessee Jed, Brother Esau, Loser, Let It Grow II: Iko Iko > Samson > He's Gone > Smokestack > Cryptical > Drums > Space > Comes a Time > Other One > Cryptical > Wharf Rat > Around > Good Lovin' E: U.S. Blues June of '85...what a wonderful run of shows. From the Greeks all the way to Merriweather Post these are solid. I saw this show, and the following night at Blossom (decided to skip Saratoga and come home...sigh...). Some of the praise has to do with the
  10. I'm not actually sure when they first met, but HST spent a lot of time in the Keys in the early Eighties and him and Buffett became pretty tight then.
  11. Hey Mende - just curious - what language were you speaking before you learned the english? In regards to Zep: my older, hip cousin had the first LP when it came out. He let me borrow it, and I had to have my folks buy that one (and LZ II) for me. I was 7-8 years old, listening to this stuff. I was a really weird kid (note: was )
  12. Hmm...let's see. I think I first heard the Dead's "American Beauty" when I was about 14 or 15. Their reputation preceeded this, of course - I already had heard of them being THE acid rock band, and I already was into Floyd and things like that, so when I heard them for the first time I really didn't understand. This was, gasp, country rock! (not that there's anything wrong with that ) About 3 years later a friend dragged me to one of their concerts and it immediately became clear. This was exactly the sound I'd been searching for. I've never looked back.
  13. I think a reasonable argument could be made that because of McCain's 5 years as a P.O.W. he is actually less equipped to deal with protecting the country against terrorism. No one really knows how the trauma of something like that has affected his mental stability (and his medical records, glimpsed ever-so-briefly, don't give much indication). We all have friends and/or relatives who came home from Nam with PTSD, and few were subjected to levels of torture that McCain was. Just sayin'.
  14. I've read those things so many times they should be committed to memory, permanently. But I do like the beer, so... I don't think I've ever heard the Morgantown show.
  15. That's weird that 4/16/78 isn't in the vault - I've had sbd cassettes of that show for many years. Maybe it's one of those Betty Boards where the master is lost, but was copied enough to put it in general circulation. Hmmm.
  16. Oh no. Here we go again: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080624/ap_on_...ccain_terrorism The thing that really blows my mind is that we have a sitting President, the least popular of all times (possibly), who has made glaring error after error in this 'War On Terror', and John McCain has voted the way the White House would want him to (in regards to the 'War On Terror') time after time - but according to most polls, Americans (by a wide margin) think he would do better combating terrorism than Barack. I just do not understand the logic here (if there is any).
  17. Nice to see Do The Right Thing on there, but Malcolm X should really be on that list. I thought that was one of the better documentary-style movies of the last 20 years.
  18. Toledo Window Box was the first comedy LP I ever bought. I wore the grooves out on that thing - pretty rare for a comedy record. I'll miss you George.
  19. I just wanted to bump this thread and say to anyone who cares at all about fusion GO and see Return to Forever if they're in your area. They played here in Indy tonight and smoked the place. Stanley Clarke took a few bass solos that were songs in themselves - he is still the gold standard imo. Al played like a demon all night. He made me not want to pick up a guitar again for a long time. Chick is still the man of consummate taste... Really nice to see a 2200 seat theatre almost sold out - these guys haven't played together or made an album in 25 years, but the crowd was wildly enthusiastic.
  20. Yeah - one of the records I have is called Circle, the other (actually under Chick's name) is called Circulus. It's a Blue Note reissue. Those Braxton LPs with the calculus-looking titles are pretty good by and large. The Complete '71 (Arista) has a piece that is 4 saxes (very reminiscent of the WSQ) that is one of the best things I've ever heard him do. I will be getting this book as soon as I can get to a bookstore!
  21. This place is like Mayberry or Leave It To Beaver compared to other boards. Some places are simply brutal (I won't name them).
  22. Wasn't Paris where AB and Chick formed the Circulus band with Holland and Altschul? I have a couple of records by that band and it is some truly far out stuff.
