  1. 6/17/94 Eagles Auditorium, Milwaukee WI II: 2001 > Sample, Poor Heart, Mike's Song > Simple > Mike's Song > I Am H2 > Weekapaug, Harpua > Kung > Harpua, Sparkle, Big Ball Jam, Julius > Frankenstein E: Sleeping Monkey, Rocky Top * This is the infamous "O.J. Show", played on the night of the Bronco chase. 2001, Mike's, Jim, and Poor Heart all included references to O.J. I have a pretty skeevy AUD of this show (I think we've discussed the Eagles' shitty acoustics on here) but it's still crazier than hell - worth a spin if ya have it.
  2. What is this? Did you get a gig as Wienberg's drum tech? I kind of prefer the term 'hiatus' - it sounds more secular.
  3. I found this to be an interesting article - especially the speculation on a potential successor to Russert. David Gregory, anyone? http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0608/11084.html
  4. "Take it from me, elections matter" -Al Gore http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080617/ap_on_el_pr/obama_gore
  5. Those live sets that came out last Fall from the Avalon Ballroom April '69 (where the Burritos opened for the Dead) are pretty fine, if you don't mind the somewhat muddy sound quality. I've given them numerous spins and felt no pain. As Lou said, there's just not a ton of stuff by GP out there - but regarding the 'et al' part of your thread title I can't say enough about the early NRPS records. The first LP in particular is one of my very favorite records. Check 'em out if you haven't already.
  6. If Federer would have conquered clay like he has other surfaces he might give Woods a run for his money in this decade. But he has not - so it's Tiger in the '00s no question.
  7. I have no idea how this could be pulled off acoustically, but Zep - Custard Pie.
  8. When I started losing the hair on the top of my head the yahoos I used to work with nicknamed me Gallagher. Then on my birthday they wrapped up my present - a sledgehammer. Nice group of folks there.
  9. Dude, don't start a bidding war with me on this - I will crush you.
  10. And bongulating as well - who was it that said "you can have my bong when you pry it from my cold, dead hands".
  11. There was a rumor circulating last week that Mr. Independent is considering running for Governor of New Jersey. Maybe his first act would be to build a border fence around the state.
  12. I have no facts to back it up, but I've always just assumed JB is the kind of cat who has an abnormally high tolerance for alcohol. This could explain the lack of self-censorship, not to mention his nearly unparalleled verbosity - I think the filibuster was created with someone like Joe in mind.
  13. In my opinion there are few people on the Hill that can speak with more clarity and authority when it comes to foriegn policy than Senator Joe. I think he'd make a good choice for Secretary of State. He certainly knows his stuff. In spite of some of his verbal miscues (the plagiarized speech, the Barack comment, the Indian/7-11 comment) I've always been a fan of the guy.
  14. 6/14/76 - Beacon Theatre NYC This show should be mentioned if only for the amazing 30+ minute Help > Slip > Frank sequence. The Slipknot in particular is 13:20 minutes long and contains the most unbelievable playing! The jam includes some stuff with just JG and the drummers that reminds me of some of the Trane/Elvin Jones duets. Then Phil joins in and there is a great musical argument between Jerry and Phil. Bobby gets his .02 and things veer off course for a minute but then the theme is re-established and dovetails nicely into a 11 minute Franks that is just exactly perfect. My favor
  15. Joe Biden uses that phrase quite a bit but for some reason I don't find it nearly as irritating.
  16. 6/14/91 - RFK Stadium II: Help > Slip > Frank, Estimated > Dark Star > Drums > Space > Stella Blue > Lovelight E: Baby Blue Best set of the Vinnie & Bruce Era? I don't know, but it's definitely a powerful one. I think this was the first time I'd heard vince's "sax" solo during Estimated - very cool the first time you hear it, but it's kind of a shame he decided to do it EVERY time at that point in the song from then on. Oh well, go dig this one out - it'll be worth it.
  17. Oh man, don't say that! For me, I'm thinking side 2 of Braxton's "Series F" record. Heh heh. That would be something, yes?
  18. We've been through 2 or 3 of these campaign threads so far and things have remained remarkably civil. I've been impressed. I hope this continues.
  19. Yeah. Sunday mornings with Russert have been a ritual for me for a very long time. He was a class act.
  20. Phish - Nassau Coliseum 4/2/98 SBD (Live Phish)
  21. The most recent thing I've seen that made me tear up a bit was "The Kite Runner". The book was even better, but the film got to me in a way that was pretty unusual (for me anyway).
