  1. After I had already posted that I thought to myself "waaaaait a minute here...."
  2. Cool. WS and live Wilco. All I need now is some dancin' girls and a cold one.
  3. This one's for all the 3 year-olds out there who've been deprived of witnessing the team win a WS.
  4. Yeah, he was first called up in July to fill in for an injured Crisp. I think he only played a handful of games (5 or so) before being sent back to the Paw Sox.
  5. NE at IND will certaily be a great game next weekend. Assuming the Colts hold on to their already huge lead today, both teams are undefeated.
  6. Pretty funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X7Zi_p-5ww
  7. Ridiculous ending to football game: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/foot...ex.html?cnn=yes
  8. Tessie is the Royal Rooters rally cry Tessie is the tune they always sung Tessie echoed April through October nights After serenading Stahl, Dinneen and Young Tessie is a maiden with a sparkling eye Tessie is a maiden with a love She doesn't know the meaning of her sight She's got a comment full of love And sometimes when the game is on the line Tessie always carried them away Up the road from "Third Base" to Huntington The boys will always sing and sway Two! Three! Four! Tessie, "Nuf Ced" McGreevey shouted We're not here to mess around Boston, you know we love you madly Hear the crowd roa
  9. I've always thought of the Dead as the original Punk outfit. Their whole ethos was less hippie and more Punk attitude with the go-your-own-route deal.
  10. One of the things with this is that Papelbon emphatically stated he wanted to close. That he was "born to close." His shoulder was totally re-habbed/re-built/whatever in the off season and he was headed to be a starter (he's both started and closed in the minors and college). Epstein and Francona tried to sway him but ultimately Papelbon won out. The Sox also needed a closer by this point (end of Spring training). I understand what you're saying, though, in terms of him potentially yielding better results for the team as a starter. On the other hand, I think he fits perfectly in the role he
  11. Not sure what's ailing you, Louie, but here's hoping you beat it quick.
  12. There's certainly a high premium put on managers, though. Look at some of the contracts in recent years that teams are willing to give some managers. From an ownership/GM viewpoint they are quite relevant. I'd imagine from a lot of the players' perspective they are pretty relevant, too.
  13. I agree. I also think there is something to be said for how a manager manages the team off the field as well as in the dugout. Managers who are generally liked and respected by their players might be able to get more out of them.
  14. I'm assuming a very recent release? I haven't seen him in about 8 years. Does he still do solo tours?
  15. Of course it did. Since he's been managing the Sox he's taken them to the post-season 3 of the 4 years and the WS twice. He's arguably the best manager BOS has ever seen (with considerations to Dick Williams). He's made questionable moves throughout the regular season the last few years but has backed them up and managed efficiently through them. Is there a GM around who wouldn't want Francona managing their club, particularly in the post-season? I doubt it.
  16. I've always had trouble saying" Kitty litter." It ends up blending into "killir." I'm glad I have very little need in my life to have to use those words often.
  17. But there is a correct way to pronounce a word. I understand regional dialect and all that. Because someone pronounces "ask" as "ax" doesn't mean it's correct, though. Pronouncing "aunt" as "ant" is a good example. I grew up calling all those ladies "aunt" but notice that most people outside of New England pronounce it "ant." And I hear "ornery" used pretty frequently. Just incorrectly pronounced. ed. Not trying to be the turd in the punchbowl, but the thread allows for I think. Also, etymology/words/dialects/etc. have always fascinated me.
