Ted Kennedy to be succeeded by a toolbag

When the justification is the common good (we can't let AIG fail for the good of the economy) it may be, but you are right, Matt, with that example. True fiscal conservatives hate to see all of this taxpayer money thrown around for any reason. -

That's a great definition for socialism. It's one that I know. I just don't think it can truly work without those in charge taking more than their fair share. -

I think many conservatives and others are against growing the government in the name of the "common good" (ie, socialism) because we believe that, in reality, those in charge will always take more than their fair share. Doesn't matter if it's Communist Party leaders in USSR or China or Wall Street bankers in America. -

Pretty sure that's how it worked in the USSR, China, Cuba, Eastern Europe. Wealthy = party leaders. -
Most underrated Stones song has to be Monkey Man. Didn't hear it until about 12 years ago, blows me away every time. Listen here

I am having fun watching my partisan friends on both sides go apoplectic over this. -
I was indifferent to a lot of 60s and 70s stuff growing up in the 80s listening to punk, Bowie, Velvets, etc. Never hated Steely Dan, Grateful Dead, Springsteen, but never gave 'em a chance. Now I love all 3. I can't think of anyone I used to really, really hate who I like now.

Albums with a narrative

That's ok. I break that out after most losses.

The Cowboys were using time outs in the drive prior to this touchdown. They thought they were still in it. A blocked field goal returned for a touchdown and an onside kick recovered suddenly changes things. Vikings fans have seen major disasters like this play out before our eyes. Sir Stewart hit the nail on the head.

Sorry 'bout that

Never heard passenger side like that!

Like Paul Simon's Graceland performed by east coast preppies, but I like it. I'm pretty sure Jules does not, though

After checking out Dolorean based on Beltmann's recommendation (brilliant), I feel like a smarmy ass for my post. So here's a serious recommendation in case the person who started this thread hasn't heard of Old 97s. Buy Too Far to Care, Fight Songs, and Satellite Rides right now. The Live one is a good one too.

Yes, I was upset with you about that. But no, this isn't superstitious. It's just that I can't think rationally about this game.

I can't and won't predict the MIN/DAL game. Too much at stake for me. Too biased to think rationally. IND over BAL SD over NYJ NO over AZ

if you could eliminate 1 musical act/artist
uncool2pillow replied to Atticus's topic in Someone Else's Song
I'm curious about how old you are. The 80s popular music landscape was absolutely dreadful. The underground scene was incredible. But otherwise it was horrible synth-pop, hair metal, and glossy "R&B" with no real soul. U2 is an incredibly arrogant group, to be sure and have other weaknesses, but to claim that the musical landscape of the past and present would not be worse off is way off base, I think. -
Domestic discord will ensue next week. My wife is a die hard Cowboys fan.
