Wow! That is the stupidest jazz album cover I've ever seen, at least for traditional jazz. Some great performers on that record, but it looks like it should have the Monster Mash on it.

I don't believe I quoted you at all, Speed Racer. Just trying to figure out how much the government can drive up costs before you move responsibility of failure to the high cost of government regulation instead of a poor business plan. I think we're kind of in agreement of the effects of globalization. I just wonder (and I really don't know, I'm a public school teacher, not an entrepreneur or small business owner or employee for one of them) if these regulations stifle what could be better job growth here in the US. What's a better scenario: 3% unemployment, but millions of those who are -
Hmmm... 1. I saw Grant Hart w/ a crowd of about a dozen. His voice is amazing. The Husker Du recordings just doesn't do it justice. 2. A family festival with Dan Zanes and Justin Roberts. It was incredible fun to watch my kids enjoy some really good music and meet the artists the love afterwards. 3. Ralph's World. Another cool family musician. Someday I'll go to another grown up concert.

So the government is can stack up any level of expensive regulation?? Like it or not, in today's world, companies who find the cost of employing people in the US too expensive have plenty of other options. Is that the business model you prefer? -

Maybe it's all they can afford because they are expected to (or maybe soon required to) provide medical insurance. -

Here's the difference: Big Corporations have the overhead to have a staff of lawyers on hand who can read and react to new regulations. -

I hear you, Jules. But how do we compete with 3rd world countries where the standard of living is a tiny percentage of ours? On a semi-related note, I remember hearing a story about 4 years ago about how GM ought to be one of the strongest advocates for a single-payer health care system. Many of the competitors come from nations that have it and one statistic cited in the story was that GM spends more $$ per vehicle in health care costs (for employees AND retirees) than they do for steel in the car. I'm not saying I think single-payer is the best system for this country; there are many -

There are some great shots there. But in 2 or 3 of them he looks a bit like Eddie Vedder to me. -
They certainly stir a certain sense of nostalgia for me.

OK, this one looks pretty damn cool. Stupid guilty please, but I am all over it.

The only argument I can buy for keeping the starters in is that they've already won a Super Bowl recently. Since they already have it, throw caution to the wind and go for perfection. Otherwise, keep 'em healthy for the playoffs.

Paul Westerberg signature guitar for $80!

I currently do not own an electric guitar. I believe that would suit my needs. -
My guess is that this is just false hope, but... http://www.examiner.com/x-14041-Charlotte-Health-and-Happiness-Examiner~y2009m12d25-Vic-Chesnutt-death-reports-sent-out-unconfirmed

Lots of whiteness here in Des Moines as well. Merry Xmas all.

Check out the tongue-tied lightning threads. What are your thoughts on God? Obama?

Oh no. Saw him open for Bob Mould a couple of times. This is terrible, terrible news. Let's pull through, Vic!

Just to be clear, that's not my opinion, just one someone else stated here a long time ago. I wouldn't be surprised if the band kind of agrees with it. Or, as their catalog grows, there's less room in the setlists for covers. Having said that, I saw them play Fear the Reaper as a closed in West Des Moines, it was fantastic. The drum tech came out and played cowbell.

Better than Stairway to Heaven, or does that belong in the blasphemy thread.

My signature line came just before they went into Color Me Impressed and I Wanna Be Sedated. Long ago. I remember someone saying here that they've outgrown covers. I would love to hear them throw 1 or 2 in a show.

Not bad for a band playing a wedding. The lead guitarist has heard of the the Grateful Dead and Phish, that's for sure. I prefer .

Never head of them, but bonus points for a cool name.
