Isn't it time for a new election thread?!

No offense taken. My question, if Lennon really believed in these words, what, specifically, did he do to bring it about besides write songs and maybe a benefit show here or there? He lived in a cozy condo at the Dakota, he seemed pretty happy with his possessions. Sean and Yoko (not the poor, unwashed masses) continue to profit from the wealth his estate created. Even Bill Gates and Warren Buffet are turning their fortunes over for philanthropic purposes. They are capitalists who don't want to "Imagine no possessions". I guess my point is that you and millions of other fans of that son -

Artistic or musical talent is completely separate from political thinking. True, many musicians write songs about politics, but just because they write brilliant songs doesn't mean they're right -- or wrong for that matter -- about their politics. Peggy Noonan was/is a great speechwriter (you may disagree, but many liberals would agree), does that mean liberals should agree with what she writes? No. John Lennon is a brilliant songwriter. When I listen to "Imagine", though, it's a little like dreaming about unicorns, rainbows, and puppy dogs; not dreaming about something that's even remote -

I do!! The previews make it look like possibly the best Stone movie since Wall Street. Just freakin' funny & crazy. It looks like to me that there's such a comedic element (black comedy, to be sure) to this movie that Stone won't want it treated like a historical document the way he did w/ JFK (it still absolutely enrages me that curricular materials were sent to schools for that movie!!!).

You're right about the lack of stylistic variety in the Huskers, which is why Bob's Workbook is (almost 20 years after its release) still my favorite album of all time. I think Paul's lyrics are timeless, but for me, timeless for teenager suffering from angst. Adult angst is very different, at least for me. That's why Bob's lyrics still affect me in a way that Paul's don't. God love 'em both though. Can't imagine surviving a lot of rough spots in my life w/o 'em.

Love 'em both, too. I might take issue with you on the lyrics. I listened to a lot of Replacements in HS. The lyrics then slayed me. On songs like Unsatisfied, Color Me Impressed, and dozens of others it was like he was writing about my life. Now, they no longer have the same meaning, except in a nostalgic (almost painful) way. I think Bob's words were more "abstract" and could speak to dozens of different situations. I think he wrote the lyrics that way on purpose as a gay man trying to write songs about relationships that all people could relate to. Hell, a lot of his songs that wer

Can't we pretty much include any spouse in a band? Yoko playing w/ John, Linda w/ Paul, Patti. I'm sure there's more. Also, anyone w/ the last name Yule in VU.

Lots of weaknesses with this movie. I think it would've been better in the hands of another director and Matthew Broderick's acting was pretty horrible. Having said that, I liked it. Helen Hunt is a good actress, Colin Firth too.
