  1. Actually to Henry & Hayden. It's just nonsense (at least to me).
  2. From time to time, I forget how great this is!
  3. Millionaires singing a song about being taxed out of their wealth to support a semi-socialist state. Yes, I see the populist message.
  4. Congrats. Born on JT's b-day? That's pretty cool.
  5. Amen! I weird indie style movie that was marketed as a Tom Hanks blockbuster. I LOVED it.
  6. Can't believe I almost forgot about this one, but then again, I can. Jay Farrar played in a show in Des Moines about 4 years ago. It was a huge snoozer. He had a great accompanist on guitar, but he seemed to be having about as much fun as a mail clerk and showed about as much interest.
  7. I always thought "I'm A Wheel" makes a great nursery rhyme / kids' song.
  8. I don't have one, but I know at least 3 people who do. To a person, they love them.
  9. Should've walked out on a Frank Black solo show at a small bar in Des Moines about 6 years ago. He almost did. The sound was horrible and he was clearly not happy to be there. I'm convinced it was that night he decided to reunite the Pixies to cash in.
  10. He looked like my wife's grandmother after she stopped covering her gray.
  11. If you're okay w/ MP3 sound quality and you don't own this, you'd be really stupid to pass that up!
  12. How can you hate M-Shop?? A great small venue. Bob Mould once put it on his top 5 to play. I've seen Richard Thompson, Bob, Rhett Miller, Mark Olson & Gary Louris, and even Chick Corea there.
  13. Stephens will be an interesting venue for him. It's great acoustics and perfect for jazz or someone like Lyle Lovett. I'd love to go, but when it rains, it pours and one has to pick & choose. We have Adam, Jonathan Richman, and Old 97s coming to central Iowa in October, all on weekdays. I'm going w/ 97s. It's closer, and I've heard Adams can be uneven live.
  14. What I loved about this movie is learning about McNamara's experiences working for Ford and in WWII. I had no idea what important contributions he had made to those endeavors. The Vietnam material was strong, too, but it wasn't much that he hadn't said before already.
  15. Agree w/ all of these. Once when my kids were about 6-8 months old, we were doing a 2 am feeding. When we started to put them back down they both started "tooting" with great frequency. My wife and I started laughing and talking about Blazing Saddles. On another note, another favorite scene of mine is the opening sequence of Royal Tenenbaums. In 5-10 minutes all the characters are developed, the setting is made beautifully clear, and the mood of the movie is perfectly established. Plus, kids who grew up watching Thomas the Tank Engine will recognize Alec Baldwin's narration.
  16. Sorry, I kinda thought it was obvious. There still are too many mean people on VC!
