Ban for life. It didn't take long at all for ESPN to put together a montage of ALL his biting moments. I mean Tyson shocked the world with ONE bite.

I saw the first 20 minutes then went to the Isbell show trying to avoid spoilers. A friend texted me "Well that sucked!" Knowing we were down 1-0 already, I feared the worst, so a draw waws kind of a pleasant surprise. We still have a better chance than not to qualify and that Portugal tie was spectacular, can't really fault the U.S. for much. Howard played unbelievably. I hope Klinsmann has some tricks up his sleeve and some good insight into his countrymen for Thursday.

Holy crap! Best rock show I've seen in a while. I need to brush up on his catalog now!

Since I'm seeing Jason Isbell at 6:30 and the game starts at 5:00, I'm going to try to avoid any spoilers. Not sure it will be possible not to overhear something at the show, but I really hope so.

We stole the English national anthem for "My Country Tis of Thee". The Star-Spangled Banner's tune is an old drinking song melody.

Helluva goal by Messi there.

This poses a very interesting and difficult problem. If we assume responsibility how can we help without using war? ISIS won't respond to sanctions or anything like that. I certainly don't want to escalate again, but feel a strong sense of responsibility to the people of Iraq.

Indeed! I posted this picture to FB wondering if Bob Mould knows Gary stole his guitar.

A great show. Mostly stuff from Smile, Sound of Lies, and Rainy Day Music, but a few off Hollywood Town Hall and Tomorrow the Green Grass. A Jayhawks show without "Blue" would've left me unsatisfied. They played it. I didn't realize how well Louris could shred on guitar. He really cranked it up a few times. They played Golden Smog's "If I Only Had a Car" in the encore. One a weird note, I was distracted a bit by Kraig Johnson's resemblance to Rob Thomas. Kind of creepy. Back on topic, John Hiatt tonight.

Did you see Megyn Kelly, a Fox anchor actually gave Cheney quite a grilling on Iraq. It was fairly stunning. I'd post the link, but I'm on my phone.

Not sure I ever knew he and King were married.

They're Olsonless, so that's tempering my expectations, apparently focusing on the 1997-2004 Olsonless records. Rainy Day Music is the only one of those I really know well. Hopefully they'll pull out a few from Tomorrow the Green Grass and Hollywood Town Hall.

Mine too. I haven't checked Vegas odds, but the way the handled Portugal they've gotta be the favorite. Anything can happen. But it's soccer, anything can happen: injury, errant goal. Being a stay-at-home dad during the summer hasn't meant as much soccer as I hoped. My twins are 9 and are much more active than when they were 5. Then, they'd go outside or to the basement and play for hours on end. Now we do "homework" in the morning and usually have outings in the afternoon. Not nearly as much soccer for me so far as I anticipated.

When I was in D.C. last week, I saw a group on an honor flight. Most honor flights I've heard of were strictly for WWII vets. This one had vets from WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. You could tell the Vietnam vets in particular were quite proud to have been included. Talked to many, enjoyed their stories. Those WWII folks won't be around much longer. I remember the first year of my teaching career ended on the 50th anniversary of D-Day and 2 weeks ago we marked the 70th. Time flies... -

Three great WWI reads by Barbara Tuchman (probably my favorite history writer) in chronological order by history, not publication (copied from Wikipedia): The Proud Tower: A Portrait of the World Before the War, 1890–1914 (1966)—Covers the hesitant rise of U.S. imperialism, anarchist assassinations, socialism, communism, and the devolution of the 19th century order in Europe and North America. The Guns of August (1962) details the military decisions and actions that occurred leading up to and during the first month of World War I. It is primarily what established her reputation. During the Cu -
Don't forget Sonny Rollins. Saw him back in '99, still blowing a furious horn and he's still on the road today. As far as Silver, Fresh Air's brief obituary reminded us that Steely Dan fans should be forever indebted to him for this bass line. http://youtu.be/S1CilMzT55M

I didn't get to watch much yesterday. About 1/2 of the AUS/NED game. It seemed like a rugby match. Very physical. It's now official that Altidore won't play Sunday. No surprise, but I was kind of hoping for a miracle recovery.

Didn't end well for you. A pretty physical game.

Quite frankly, the first one is. Just look at Korea, Japan, Germany, etc. Not ideal, but feasible. From what I can gather, this ISIS group is nearly as well organized, led, and funded as Al Qaeda. Going after these terrorist groups seems about as effective asplaying whack-a-mole. Not sure what the short-term answer is, but I remain convinced that a major part of the long-term answer is energy independence. Saudis and other wealthy Arabs seem to pump money into whatever new group crops up. Dry up their major source of wealth and our need to support regimes that our diametrically oppos
