  1. I kind of wonder as Gene and Paul continue to age if they've thought about retiring, but replacing themselves with younger versions. The makeup is already beginning to look ridiculous on their aging faces and it's clear they cannot move around the stage in those boots the way the used to. KISS w/o any of the original members wouldn't sell nearly as well. But making a tribute band the "official" version of KISS could add some cache that Gene and Paul could profit from and that's what it's all about for those guys.
  2. I like the idea of hearing him sing My Hometown.
  3. I really respect what Scorsese did with this one. I'm kind of ashamed of how many of my fellow Christians treated it. It is probably the only cinematic presentation of Christ that shows his full humanity. Passion of the Christ, maybe, but the bloodlust that overtakes the 2nd half of that movie makes you quickly forget anything else. I think it also captures the spirit of Judea under Roman control more fully than any other "Biblical Epic." While there are obvious liberties with the Gospel, they mostly show temptation. In the end, Jesus overcomes his temptation and fulfills his mission.
  4. Thanks for sharing. That was a good read.
  5. Even though it's a concept he attacked in his speech, Morello probably gives more credibility than Ian.
  6. Weird synchronicity. Just got to this on my DVR.
  7. When I saw Olson/Louris, they played lots of Rainy Day Music. Surprised re-formed Jayhawks don't.
  8. Thanks. I've heard lots of people say that, and while it's heart-wrenching to see your child sick, having had a similar virus a few weeks ago, I would say it was worse for me when I was sick. I'd take a bullet for my kids, but not the stomach flu.
  9. The songs might be middling, but the sonic landscape is nothing short of revolutionary. And I'm not a huge fan. I just recognize a huge leap forward when one is made.
  10. On the upside, for you people, I'll be hanging around here more.
  11. Home with puking daughter. Same as last Tuesday.
  12. Which state? My student barely missed the finalists here in Iowa.
  13. t It's not a slam dunk, but it's worth a test.
  14. Stick with me on this. I am not arguing right/wrong, I am arguing constitutional, which is the job of SCOTUS. Kevin, does limiting campaign contributions limit political speech? If your answer is no, please explain. If you answer is yes, explain how that isn't a clear violation of the First Amendment. Atticus, I agree with you completely. Amend the constitution. As divided as we've become the last 25 years, I don't see it happening, but it's possible. Again, I think a possibly constitutional solution would be to say that donors can only donate to elections in their jurisdiction.
  15. It was time about 15, if not 20 years ago. He shaped my sense of humor more than anyone else, but he's really stopped trying. Hopefully the announcement will rejuvenate him. Maybe Leno will take over the Late Show.
  16. I think the obvious is Stealers Wheel Stuck in the Middle sounds exactly like John Lennon.
  17. You're right, they are problematic, it's a quid pro quo. I think it's a sadder state of affairs is that fundraising and atrocious 30 second ads work, not that they are legal. Campaign finance reform is a band aid on the hemorrhaging wound of stupidity in this country.
  18. When you limit someone's ability to distribute their political POV, you're limiting their freedom. It might not be right, but it is damn sure constitutional. However, I think one could make a case that people should only be allowed to financially participate in elections for which they can vote (ie, their own district, state, etc.)
  19. So damn surreal. Go back to '88 to '89 and imagine this conversation.
