  1. Me too! Toured there circa 1994 and the guy pouring samples was a fellow Luther College alum, so he kept our glasses full. Great time! I had some New Glaurus a couple of weeks ago. Can't remember which one, but it was good.
  2. I'm doing a bike ride next week to hit a bunch of Des Moines area microbreweries http://515brewing.com/ http://confluencebrewing.com/ http://www.courtavebrew.com/ http://www.raccoonbrew.com/
  3. I saw Bob Mould put on a ton of solo acoustic shows. Every one of them opened with Wishing Well. He tore that apart every time.
  4. Also the Steve Martin memoir. Not often that I read 2 books @ once, but didn't want to take the iPad to the pool.
  5. Old 97s. Also free in Iowa City.
  6. Richard Thompson. Freei in Iowa City
  7. Anyone read his book? My brother just sent my a copy. http://www.amazon.com/Year-Swollen-Appendices-Brian-Diary/dp/0571179959/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1370298026&sr=1-1&keywords=brian+eno+appendices
  8. My brother says the Cleveland Clinic is up there with Mayo, so I'm guessing the answer is yes.
  9. It's a bit amazing to me that of all the toxins that coursed through that man's body. In the end, it was the music from Lulu that sent his liver over the edge. I wish him all the best. The entire VU catalog and New York are still in heavy rotation. The politics of NY are dated now, but the music is still awesome. Incredible guitar sound.
  10. Wow! The debris reminds me of being in a carwash, except it's dirt and debris, not brushes. Also, I was amused that Hixter posted it first and it features a political ad about gun control, at least when I viewed. it.
  11. Sounds pretty epic for a guy who was nearly incapable of stringing together a coherent sentence when I was him a couple of years ago. edit: I should add that I really enjoyed this show. It was
  12. Dead: Marin Luther Thomas Jefferson Socrates Abe Lincoln Tim Russert (to moderate) Alive: Bill Clinton Geo. HW Bush Adrian Peterson Nelson Mandela (Actually, I have no idea)
  13. I go to Washington pretty much every summer. I take dozens of 8th graders and still manage to have a great time, but the idea of living in that city fills me with dread.
  14. He's done some great stuff, but I didn't expect it from Chris.
  15. I liked Jules' reply, but I'll add a bit. At least up until George W. was elected, I think you could argue that most Republicans did a good job paying lip service to the religious right but not doing much for their cause. I think things have changed the last 10-15 years, so have my voting habits, somewhat.
  16. Chris Mars. His first solo LP was a total shocker.
  17. oops "places". If I'm around conservatives, I become more liberal. If I'm around liberals, become more conservative. I guess I take up for the other side. My views are pretty consistent, actually, just left on some (social mostly) and right on others (fiscal mostly). But I'm not likely to contribute to a political conversation solely to agree.
  18. Or the religiously liberal / fisacally conservative?
  19. I've always loved a good political debate, but emphasis on good. Love hearing others' views. I tend to take the other side. Here, I'm fairly conservative, other place I get pretty liberal. I think it helps me sort out my own views and as a social studies teacher, I've got to do a good job of staying neutral. I once had a former student shocked to see me at some Republican event. Woulda sworn I was a lifelong dem.
  20. Kevin, I have no doubt that you and many others could comment on Noonan's substance. My post was more a criticism of IRDB's usual lack of substance than a defense of Noonan.
  21. I agree, her personal style is very grating. Of course, one only attacks style if they can't or won't attack substance.
