But the law does not. Wilco and the Dead and lots of other bands are/were okay with taping. That's their right and it doesn't seem to have hurt their bottom line. They (and their labels, publishing companies, etc) own the right to their music, they get to legally control how to distribute. Anything that violates that is theft, period!

I love the concept of writing and promoting a book is another way of selling out. Good lord!

Ummm... I call bullshit w/o some sort of documentation.

I really liked Lowery's piece and it's made me reflect upon how I acquire music. I purchase a lot, but also use free (some legal, some not; some band-approved, some not) to acquire music. I look at all my old Maxell tapes and realize it's something I've done my whole life, it's just now the quality is so superior. Also, lots of my purchased music was at a huge discount through BMG and Columbia House, which no longer exist. Anyhow, I don't think there's much of a moral, ethical, or legal leg to stand on to defend illegal (Spotify, Pandora, etc. are all perfectly legal, right??) acquisition

1. I'm not sure why you think your post is crass. 2. Just because he doesn't get suspended doesn't mean alcohol isn't a relapse.
-
Sorry, I misread your post, thought you said his issues were "in his past". Hamilton is a great guy, no doubt. He attacked his demons head on. I would hope he'd continue to face them with honesty. It just seems like flu-like symptoms and dehydration are often code words used for something else.
-
He had a relapse with alcohol four months ago. I think most recovering addicts would tell you that the temptation never goes away.
-
I will take his virus at face value. By all appearances, it appears to be an accurate report. I want you to re-read these 2 sentences you typed and explain them. He is a recovering alcoholic/drug addict. How would his issues with alcohol last off season not be a relapse? Alcohol isn't a relapse, but drugs are?
-
I sure hope Josh Hamilton's dehydration is truly due to a virus. My gut tells me it's another relapse. I hope I'm wrong.

It's either an Old English word or a Star Wars reference. -

Certainly woth revisiting. One of the classics. -
Both began as entertainers. Maher as a comedian, Rush as a broadcaster (FM DJ, entertainment, not news or punditry). Both now view themselves as shapers of the national opinion. Both try to entertain, but more importantly, shape the opinion of their audience. When they began to understand (or overestimate their own importance) is when I stopped caring about either.

Sometimes wives have better judgment.

Damn, Beltmann, that's so sad! With your eloquence, you'd do better than Barrett. How much of this vote was due to him as an alternative to Walker?

One more point. I used to enjoy both. Limbaugh was very, very funny and kind of iconoclastic in the late 80s and early 90s. It was only after Clinton was elected and Limbaugh saw himself as the voice of the opposition that he really turned to complete obnoxiousness. Maher was good on Politically Incorrect, but also began to take himself too seriously.
-
Pretty much. Condescending, can't stand being criticized, smarmy. Just because you agree with one of them doesn't make their style any different. Jon Stewart is liberal, but gets lots of conservatives on his show because he treats them with the respect they deserve (meaning very little, in some instances). There's probably a conservative equivalent to Stewart that I cannot think of right now. Limbaugh and Maher are -- for lack of a better term -- wingnuts. They yell, scream, belittle. Obviously, they aren't always equally obnoxious and Rush would probably score higher on the dishonesty
-
Neither would Rush, or Bill Maher. I disdain both. The 2nd half of that sentence is maybe your most offensive statement yet, albeit not intentionally.

Please realize that many, many people do not pay for music. Whether illegal downloading, copying CDs, or just using Spotify, etc. I suppose Wilco could charge $270 for concert tix like Neil Young. I'll take a Sprint commercial and $40 tickets.

Hateful, divisive rhetoric. People who disagree with me are assholes? The truth is, I dislike glorifying ALL public school teachers as much as I hate demonizing all of us. I've worked with too many who give ammunition to our critics. Most teachers I work with work long hours, are committed to all of their students, and never rest on their laurels. However, there are more than a few teaching the same lessons they were teaching 25 years ago, Like most professions there are excellent, mediocre, and crappy. The NEA hasn't helped their cause. A union's job is to protect all their members, an

New Neil Young album - with Crazy Horse!

If the market will bear it, so be it. Just seems absolutely amazing to me that people choose to part with that much money for a 2 hour show. Esp. in an arena. -
What does your upcoming concert schedule look like?

I hope it's worth it. Saw 'em in 91, I think. Probably $25-$30??
