  1. The cussing was a clever device. Is that straight from the book?
  2. Not to turn this thread into an NCLB rant, but another problem is that every year, you're measuring a new group of kids. If this year's 8th graders did better than last year's, your school did well. The really important question (by measures starting with, but not limited to standardized tests), is how much the 8th graders you tested last year grew into 9th grade.
  3. Saw fIREHOSE twice. Both great shows. Can't tell you how many times I would be surfing through a record store shelf, come across, those bastards and not see the U right away. Fuck Firehouse.
  4. Quit smoking and lose weight at the same time. Good luck!!
  5. Back in 1993 I went to an incredible cajun restaurant called Bros. If you like Cajun, it appears to still be open. http://www.broscajuncuisine.com/
  6. 9:07 CST and this is the first post of 2012? Huh.
  7. Neil Young has been copied so much that I think you'd find yourself wrong guessing him sometimes. Monk? Hell yes. Maybe the single most unique composer and performer -- who maintained a shred of tonality -- in American music.
  8. What about rap artists? Will Smith, LL Cool J, Ice T, Ice Cube, eminem (barely), lots o' others. Also, you know what movie Bowie had a great, bit piece in? Into the Night with Michelle Pfeiffer and Jeff Goldblum. A great sleeper (more accurately, insomniac) movie directed by John Landis.
  9. In 1986, when I was 15, my parents showed me that movie. I think it was the 1st time I realized my parents had the potential for coolness.
  10. Bob Mould - 70ish% - Pretty much everything from 83-98 is pure gold. His first solo CD, Workbook, has been my personal favorite from the moment I heard it in 1989. Not much even good since '98. Not sure I could compile a 45 min. playlist of listenable music since then. Bowie - 50-60% - Hunky Dory through Tonight is pretty damn good. Let's Dance and Tonight have some clunkers, but some gems too. Tin Machine's first is mostly great, then lots of hit and miss. Wilco - 95% - W(TA) is mediocre, AM is a band figuring out who they are. The rest is phenomenal. Iggy Pop Lou Reed - Around
  11. I figured it went w/o saying that I was checking here... Didn't know about bootsdaily, but will add it to my rotation. Thanks!
  12. If I didn't know they had a slew of dates in 2012 I'd say this run of shows could be their swan song.
  13. That's because you're Jules and he saw your wallet
  14. I (well, most, I suspect) knew it was too good be true. You're never done, are you?
  15. Nevermind, I didn't notice it as a separate encore below the 2nd set of dotted lines.
  16. Surprised they dumped Cruel To Be Kind from the encore. Glad I got to saw it at Val Air.
