  1. It was a good listen. The allmusic review says it's the best since Hollywood Town Hall. I think Tomorrow the Green Grass is every bit as good as Hollywood Town Hall, so I disagree. Mark's songs sound a lot like his solo stuff. I don't think he was writing with the Jayhawks in mind. Not sure how I can quantify it, but it sounds more like the White Album or Warehouse: a collection of solo songs played by a band. Still always nice to hear the harmonies.
  2. I've never bought a ticket from a scalper, but my ticket to residency night #2 was purchased by my sister-in-law for my brother's birthday from a scalper or thru stub hub or something. I have no lingering sense of guilt. I'm damn glad I got to experience that show.
  3. Wow. I can't imagine a scenario in which my Vikings win. Maybe ever. I'm happy for Lions fans. We Vikings fans know about droughts.
  4. I am definitely telling Jewish students who stay home for the holiday that they have to watch VH1 Classic for homework.
  5. My CD came today. I'll probably listen to it in a bit. Excited. New Jayhaws, new Wilco, life is good.
  6. I bought Fables when MTV was playing Can't Get There From Here. I was, maybe, 13 or so. I didn't get the sound at all and gave the cassette to my brother. Then Document really sold me. It was one of the CDs I learned to play guitar to. Saw them twice. Green and Monster tours. Both good shows.
  7. Oh... there's some hate. I love it, but I understand their POV. YHF and AGIB are fantastically weird. SBS is pretty damn normal. I don't think anyone was expecting that record when Nels came aboard.
  8. I woulda bought it 5 or 6 years ago, no question. My 1st graders probably wouldn't dig it as much.
  9. Do you think Wilco phoned in (TA) just to fulfill their obligations to Nonesuch? Either on purpose or subconsciously?
  10. This is also good comic sans humor: http://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/im-comic-sans-asshole
  11. Relax. I just thought it was kind of funny how while defending your ability to communicate, you made a typo. Just pointing out the irony. Go back to enjoying the stream.
  12. There are some similarities in the rolling bass lines and how they're near the front of the mix, some of the frenetic guitar, but I don't think the songs themselves remind me of YLT.
  13. So it seems like Standing O is the most divisive so far. I am on the pro side.
  14. Only up to Sunloathe, but it's definitely an ST kind of track. Echoey piano, subtle noise, emphasis on harmony and medley.
  15. The Art of Almost is pretty much what I've been expecting these guys to do since the first time I saw Nels w/ them.
  16. Not the saddest I know, but the saddest I've heard in a while. Finally got around to listening to the new Dawes LP. Was finishing up when I was on a run. As I was finishing the run, it came up. It was like a punch in the gut. I should only stick to my workout playlist.
  17. I really enjoy the title of this thread.
  18. I have no reason to trust this critic having never seen this blog. Nevertheless, my anticipation is growing.
