I love open tunings. Open D, Open G, DADGAD, D Modal. I think open tunings make you sound better than you actually are!

I love mediums for tone and feel. I only play acoustic, so bending is not a priority. I also play bare-flesh, so I like the volume I get from mediums (need all the help I can get). Also, since I play bare-flesh 'pinch' style, I tend to 'snap' lighter strings, if you know what I mean.

The Dead I had a couple of serious follow-them-around-tape-trading-sit-near-Phil Deadhead friends who were always trying to talk me into going. I never could get up the nerve for a 2-hour Dark Star but now wish I had.

I have tried crap loads of strings and I always come back to D'Addario EXP17 Coated Acoustic Guitar Strings, Medium. Great combination of sound, feel and longevity. I freakin love mediums. Cant stand lights.

Can I have your J-45?

I just listened to the June 21, 2003 show based upon the recommendations. Fantastic. Really captured them at a great time. Love the version of Spiders. I really love the acoustic work by JT on Via Chicago and Misunderstood. Couple of questions: 1). What was the lineup for that show? Leroy? Mikael? Nels? 2). Jeff says "This is my mid-life crisis guitar" Anyone know if he is he referring to the blue SG?
