Isn't it time for a new election thread?!
Doug C replied to remphish1's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
I honestly think that I would vote for a Republican for president in a similar situation to this one where the roles were reversed. Everything being identical except the parties were switched and I felt that the 'Democratic McCain/Palin' could possibly win, I would vote for the Republican. I have been registered No Party since I was 18 but I usually vote Democratic except for an occasional 3rd party. I have voted Republican in local elections in the rare instances when I felt that the Democrat was 'slimy/crooked/crazy' and the Republican was a person of integrity. -

We agree. Our disagreement is due to semantics. The fanatical ideologue I would label 'crazy', an admitted exaggeration for unbalanced, and keeping your 'head in the sand' I would label as unintelligent. Cheers. -

I do not see how an intelligent Republican objectively reading the words of Allison, Parker, Buckley and others could still vote for McCain. An even-tempered hand on the tiller is what is needed right now. If the only sure hand is that of another ideology then the choice is clear. I can see an unstable ideologue, an anti-abortion fanatic for example, still voting for McCain but I cannot understand how a reasonably intelligent person, after truly researching and analyzing as Buckley and others have done, could still vote for McCain. As I said, I hope that if the situation were reversed, I'd vo -

Thank you for the Buckley, Aman. I enjoy his voice and style. I agree. You must be either unintelligent or crazy to vote McCain. Ideology is irrelevant in this case. Clearly one candidate is better for the country than the other, regardless of his views on the issues. I hope that I'd do the right thing if the roles were reversed. -
That setlist is.. is.. indescribable1 A 'hits' show tour from Neil Young. I last saw him on Greendale. I rue that he isn't playing anywhere near the F-L-A. AAARGH!!!

It is difficult to discern the thread topics from reading the posts. This thread is no exception.

Thanks for the laugh. It was even funnier that some people thought that you were serious. As though someone would actually feel bad because another person doesn't listen to vinyl. You really caught some fish with that comment. Well done.

Go ahead and get 'History'. There are some good songs in their canon.

Then we should all start the Church of Massengill.

Thanks for the clarification. I should've read back a few instead of assuming that the world revolves around me!

If that was directed at me, you are wrong. I am no Christian but I am a non-denominational believer in humor.

Hahahaha! Thanks for the laugh. (Not that you are right and he is wrong, Lord kno... err, God kn... err, for Christ's sake I... err, gracious sakes I don't want any trouble)

Ditto. I am a big Todd Snider fan and am really looking forward to the album.

Five Wilco songs you can't stand to listen to.......

Now if you are talking Wilco songs that you would rather not hear at a live show then that's a horse of a different color. And fodder for a new thread. -

Some people are going to give me shit for being an asshole because I am repeating myself, but again I have to ask this: You all sincerely can't stand hearing the songs that you have listed? No exaggeration, hyperbole, etc.? Hearing them is actually offensive? How do you react if a truly offensive song, 'You Light Up My Life' for instance, is in earshot? Not enjoying certain songs as much as others, sure. After all, Wilco music is diverse and let's face it, no songwriter hits a home run every time but 'can't stand'? I am not trying to be a stick poker, I am honestly intrigued that such serious -
We have 2 koi ponds that we put in the back garden (we put in one at our old house too. The digging is hard work but the finished product is very relaxing). A couple that we are close with had 2 koi in a fishtank but they had gotten too big. They gave them to us. We put them in the koi pond - the other has goldfish - and went to bed. I let the dogs out the next morning and when I let them back in there was a koi carcass on the steps. I went out in the back and saw the other carcass. Urban raccoons. We had lost fish to them before and built 'grated' pond covers from the bamboo that we have grow

There isn't a Wilco song that I 'can't stand to listen to'. There are certainly a few that I don't have a strong connection to but there are none that I actually skip or become agitated upon hearing like "The Macarena" or "Ice, Ice Baby". You all honestly 'can't stand' the songs that you mentioned? To each his/her own, of course, but when it comes to songs that I 'can't stand' and take steps to avoid hearing, no Wilco songs are even close. -
Uncle Tupelo invented 'alternative country'. Uncle Tupelo will reunite for their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Uncle Tupelo will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I'll chime in on the music = politics debate. It is logical that a person's political views can draw them to a certain type of music but it is just as logical that someone's musical tastes can be apolitical even though they themselves are not apolitical. Like anything else, if your music forms a well-pleated braid with your politics, then you are going to feel as though this synchronicity is omni-present. If your music and politics resemble that picture of Tim Burton someone posted somewhere, then you feel as though expecting everyone to link them is odd. Seems obvious to me... I post waaaay -
No. You must be high.

I find that kind of phrase insulting. He isn't any of the audience members/listeners friend. The average American yahoo finds it endearing.
