  1. I was insanely excited about this for 10 minutes, and now I'm just really embarrassed for Paste. I thought they were reputable enough to think to verify something like this before they posted it.
  2. Oh man, two days before I'm off for a week I was already thinking about spending in Chicago
  3. It's the price that's slowing down sales of KT. While I'm dying to hear that version of Ashes of American Flags on vinyl, there's no way I'm paying $80 for that set.
  4. Nels was named musician of the year by All About Jazz--New York. Check out page 26 of the PDF of their latest issue here. It's a shame it took him so long to acknowledge Devin's departure from the Singers and that he did so only in his email newsletter and not on his the website (at least not that I can find). I know he's insanely busy, but it just sort of seems like an afterthought four months later. I'm glad I went through the trouble to get right down front for their set at Solid Sound. I'm incredibly sad that I won't get to see or hear the three of them make music together again. The S
  5. Santa brought me a record player and three records--YHF, BT, and AGIB
  6. Evangelista. And, though I think Nels will probably have the revamped version of the Singers at the festival, I'd actually rather see Scarnella. I don't think that will happen, though.
  7. Because it's an expensive town with two hotels (which are both already sold out) and not enough restaurants to support the number of people the festival will draw that's almost two hours from even regional airports and train stations. Last year was terrific, but there are plenty of more accessible places they could have tried this year. If you're not psychic and already booked a room, you're already pretty much screwed. I'm stressed out about logistics already and the dates haven't even been announced.
  8. I like that much more than anything I've heard from him in quite awhile. Thanks for posting, Wendy.
  9. I've been listening to Bob Dylan's 49th Beard a lot lately. It sounds like such a sweet little song, until you listen closely to the lyrics, and then it becomes this really weird sweet little song. I think Jeff is at his best lyrically when he's taking emotions out of their normal context--At Least That's What You Said comes to mind, as does Poor Places and Ashes of American Flags (and quite a bit of YHF really). I think for me at least that's what's been missing from his songwriting lately. Different songs resonate with me at different times. Via Chicago never really hit me hard until I he
  10. Andrew Bird is maybe 5'7", if that. He's tiny. I live in a sort of out of the way part of upstate NY, so I usually have to travel to either New York or Philadelphia to see the shows I most enjoy. There are some artists I'll drive four hours to see without thinking twice, and there are some who've disappointed me. I'll see them if they come to Syracuse or here, but not much further than that. I've been both Jeff solo three times and AB solo once and for the most part enjoyed all four shows. Though I tend to enjoy Jeff's songwriting more than Andrew Bird's, I've found Jeff's stage presence to
  11. Nels played with them last night, and I think Mike either played with or opened for them the other night.
  12. Dan from NYC Taper did finally find a ticket from someone on here. His recordings are always great, so I'm sure we're in for a treat
  13. NYC Taper always does great recordings, but he tweeted that he's still looking for a ticket to tonight's show, so it's not looking good that he'll be taping it. I don't want to derail this thread, but I have to say this. Some people around here don't seem to get that being critical isn't automatically being negative. I'm hard on Wilco at times these days for the same reason I'm often hard on my students at this point in the semester: I see their potential, and right now they're not doing their best work. They're capable of better. Solid Sound exceeded my expectations, and the Evening with sh
  14. Folks, remember that this is a public forum, meaning you don't have to be logged in to read it, so posting presale passwords helps the scalpers, too. It may not be a bad idea to PM the password.
  15. NYC Taper tweeted that Jeff is the opener for tonight's YLT show. I guess he owes them one
  16. Nels has several east coast shows with Norton Wisdom starting on 1/7, so they have to be solo shows.
  17. Whenever I need to be inflamed with excitement, I listen to Wilco (The Song), and I remember that Wilco loves me, and that gives me hope that they'll make a less mediocre album just for me...someday. The band is fantastic live. But, with the exception of One Wing, BBN, Impossible Germany, and You Are My Face, I zone out during the newer songs. I want Wilco to go back to making albums that resonate with me, that challenge me. There are plenty of other bands that can make mediocre alterna-pop records. As far as I'm concerned, if they want to keep playing it safe, they should've just stayed wi
  18. I think this show was my favorite experience of hearing this song live, because it was at the end of a summer when I'd traveled a lot to see the band. It was a great show overall and definitely worth tracking down.
  19. Last I heard, dondo doesn't live under a bridge, so I think that's a false accusation. Why is it that every time there's a thread here that criticizes the band, somebody gets accused of being a troll? Sarcasm is apparently a lost art around here.
  20. I think they need to take their time with recording and take more time to go off and work on other projects. That will inject new energy in them. They don't need a new album to tour, either, even if they're not road testing new material. They don't have a label to pressure them for a new album. There's no need to rush. I'd be fine with waiting another year or 18 months if it means we get an incredible album. This lineup is capable of a lot more than they've done on the last two albums, that's for sure.
  21. Bob knows it's a school night. I'm sure I'll be home an hour away and asleep before midnight
  22. There's no opener this time around, right? I'm going to see him in Binghamton Wednesday night and want to make sure I don't get there late.
  23. You can preview the full album here, though I'm not sure for how long, since it's out now.
  24. Stereogum has a brief album description and full tracklisting. This sounds like a very cool album, and it's out today.
