  1. Off the top.....closing down Gitmo (yes it is taking time) and ending the Iraq War (also taking time) and at least talking about climate change, appointing someone NOT ultra conservative to the Supreme Court (with more to come in the next seven years), attempting to end the Afganistan War (sure this is taking time too) trying to change the health care system (okay not to everyone's liking but getting Congress to act is like herding cats), attempting to use diplomacy when possible instead of starting a war, initiating recovering that isn't just tax cuts for the rich but also grant programs and
  2. This is totally laughable. Jesse Ventura President?? With Robert Kennedy. Don't hold your breath too long, you will pass out. A third party has little or no chance even with people being disenchanted with the two we have. Jesse Ventura is a is not exactly a leftie. Ron Paul has no traction either. No third party candidate has had any traction since Perot or John Anderson. As I have pointed out during both of the last two elections, everyone can vote for a third party candidate, but they almost always end up being a spoiler, not a viable candidate. You said it yourself that if Ron Paul g
  3. Don't you just love Amazon?? The crash of the music business has been a benefit to those of us who buy music if not those who produce it. Heck for a penny I'll buy it sight unseen. For all of 49 cents you can get one like new. I bought one just to see how it sounds. There were several dealers with it for a cent. Weird LouieB
  4. Yanking people's chains (or should I say bling) is so fun. I know not all rap artists are conceited, over important, misogenist, non-musicians, (etc. etc.), but enough are that it is an easy target. Some rap is genuinely fun to listen to and certainly to dance to (if you dance). Oh and as for not liking new music, I guess I need to throw away all those CDs and LPs that were produced in 2009 since I am not supposed to like them. Admittedly, none contain any rap music. LouieB
  5. Well yes and no... My reply to futureage1 is that those of us who read the Nation, Huffington Post, listen to progressive radio (you know who the talk show hosts are) or even Democracy Now and the other more leftist press or media are a sliver of the American public, a mere minority within a minority. yea, wake up, third party blah blah blah, both parties are the same, etc, is so fucking easy to say and so ultimately lame. I also am resonably proud of Obama, because we really aren't all that far from a President Palin. If the left, the young, the minorities, etc, sit out an election in t
  6. this is very sad news. I saw him during the reissue tour a few years back. Sadly I didn't get a chance to see him more often. Sometimes talent comes with great burdens and in his case he had many. LouieB
  7. I am shocked that people are shocked by any of this. Okay fine, Obama isn't who we think he should be. (Were we all really THAT naive???) Next up.....President Palin.....just keeping thinking about that for a few minutes....after thinking about that for a few minutes somehow President Obama just doesn't seem so bad now does he?? LouieB
  8. Yea, you are right. I said that stuff just to piss you off. Kanye West is a fucking genius, we all know that. I am totally not in touch with any hip hop nor do I claim to be. I do occasionally listen to it on the radio. LouieB
  9. My sentiments exactly.... Actually I can, but how many really good rap artists are there at this point (not talking about Public Enemy.) I know we have been done this road a thousand times. The current crop seems fairly pedestrian. (Kanye West is practically old school at this point.....and getting more pointless by the day..} LouieB
  10. I thought she was particularly good in 8 Mile. LouieB
  11. I think this is a Montessori thing. Getting it sung by Jeff has turned it into a sensation. LouieB
  12. This won't sell many magazines. Who cares.... LouieB
  13. Wow, things have really changed since I went to one of these. In those days Jeff played requests for free. LouieB
  14. Yea, you are right...the sad part is we are mired in a conflict no one can seem to see their way out of. Next stop, after Obama.....President Palin....does anyone think THAT will be better? Our country is mired in so much politics as usual; that is the really upsetting thing about all this. All of this...the slow progress (if any) on health care reform, control of the financial system, global warming, both wars, etc. etc. etc. is all stuck. And as usual the best and most lasting reason to continue Barack in office---Supreme Court appointees. Does anyone want to see Sarah Palin do
  15. Okay....so his deciding to no longer play a benefit constitutes the end of Wilco..NOW I get it.... LouieB
  16. Can't Jeff play solo without it being the end of Wilco? He has done it for years and Wilco is still here. LouieB
  17. The Iraq war. not Afganistan...see below.... Hoped was about it. This is all very sad really. I still support Barack, but he is in a very tight spot; this is a lose/lose situation. If he pulls out he loses alot of folks and if he stays he loses a bunch too. Having invested this much into this conflict, it is like LBJ all over again. LouieB
  18. Pass them out to everyone okay??? Hey everyone, don't worry, Wilco is going back to the studio shortly and producing a kick ass country/southern soul album like no other.... LouieB
  19. If my family weren't Christmas fans I would have passed this up, but it is for charity after all. Considering (as I have mentioned before) it sounds heavily arranged and then Bob just showed up to croak out the lyrics, it really isn't so much fun. Had it been really sloppy and stupid it would have been far more fun; sort of a drunken Christmas thing with lots of mistakes and off pitch stuff, well then it would have been a classic. LouieB
  20. Actually I thought that was what we were talking about, a means to record an experience that can then be studied at a later time. Isn't that what this thread is about, someone not being able to tape their experience for later reflection. Meanwhile, while autoethnography may be a new thing (it sounds sort of bogus to me...), what is not new is autobiography, which is basically the same thing and is suspect as well, but terribly entertaining and enlightening about someone's state of mind. And regarding taping stuff and also experiencing it; once you start to watch an event through a viewf
  21. It sure does sound like the Onion... LouieB
  22. I guess you don't want to confess how old you really are then. I am guessing I have at least a couple years on you. LouieB
