I was going to mention this one... LouieB

I did check this out after I wrote this. I saw Fleet Foxes this summer and have heard a bit of their album. Becoming this famous and critically aclaimed this fast may not be good for these guys. I find them inoffensive, pleasant and throughly derivitive. We may never hear from them again. LouieB

Rosie just told me yesterday that after the first of the year she will be moved to a more humane time for all those wanting to sleep. Her new slot will be from 10-12 PM on Thursdays, replacing a hip hop show of some sort. I will bump this back up the night she gets started if (a big if) the stream is actually working (it wasn't last night..). LouieB

Robbie has a relatively large fan base although clearly not as large as Wilco I suppose. Okay so I use some form of Wilco for my work passwords and I was having trouble with a program and gave the tech guy at work my passwords and he didn't say anything about Wilco or the fact that I use viachicago for a password too. He thought it should be "viva Chicago" and started singing Viva Las Vegas with Chicago....pretty funny. LouieB

yea, that was sort of my thought too.... One more way to get some dough from the fans I guess. The deluxe will just have to do for me. LouieB

As someone who also saw Bruce in 76 (or whenever Born to Run came out), I count myself in the same club. It is sad but true that as we get older we do become a bit of a characture of our earlier selves and Bruce is no exception I think. There have been parts of his more recent work which haven't been so hot. But Magic was a return to form of sorts, although I really only thought about half the album is really good, with the rest being just okay. The Seeger Sessions were a worthy side project, in that I grew up with alot of those songs. I didn't bother to buy Diamonds and Dust although I g

As much as I like Andrew's muiltitracking on his recordings (and in real life), I like his straight ahead bowing more. LouieB

I checked out the streams or the pieces on the extra disk and I gotta say this is some great stuff, based on just that. The fact that it is just straight up playing is really great. That material is worth its own release and certainly worth the extra dough. Count me in. LouieB

The Complete Arista Recordings of Anthony Braxton
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
Frankly this may be all you will ever need. These albums are his major life work in a sense. Certainly you can collect a jillion albums by this guy, but these recordings are what he is most famous for. LouieB -
The Complete Arista Recordings of Anthony Braxton
LouieB replied to LouieB's topic in Someone Else's Song
While not too many people read this thread, I found this article in the Chicago Reader intriguing. It is particularly interesting in that it talks about the resources that Arista put out to do these initial recordings and how unwilling major labels are to engage in this kind of recording any longer. Did I dis the song? NO!!! But if the DJ on XRT is to believed Bruce continued to record immediately after Magic was recorded, so this is material from about a year ago. Nothing wrong with that either. I am a big Bruce fan, but no longer rush out and buy his albums as I used to. (Fifth decade??.....let's see, the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s. hmm...didn't think I was getting THAT old....actually it is just into the 4th decade, unless you count playing for school dances part of the music business...) Keep the faith...!!! LouieB

If you count The Wilco Book, I guess they did it already. LouieB

I understand these are leftovers (or additions) to the Magic sessions... LouieB
