  1. Ex-Beatles liked farm animals.... Actually John and Yoko owned world class cattle for awhile as I recall....(and Paul became a vegetarian.) LouieB
  2. Since what musicians sing and their political views don't matter, since Jim James is injured and couldn't play the Obama benefit last night, maybe Kid Rock should have filled in.....same thing if you believe people in this thread.... LouieB
  3. Who knew listening to "Imagine" was the same as listening to a song about rainbows and unicorns (Donavan anyone..??)...see the election thread.... I do think John would be rolling over in his grave if he thought his song wasn't about anything real (that goes for Give Peace a Chance, etc....) LouieB
  4. I do like gospel music and some music with religious themes (religion is somewhat different than politics though...), but a steady diet of gospel music isn't something I would like. Wilco is clearly NOT a political band, unlike Rage or Steve Earle. But knowing that Tweedy and company strongly support Obama I would think would make a McCain supporter uncomfortable after awhile... As for not listening to lyrics....that makes songs simply instrumentals....words in songs are important or else the song itself simply isn't that important (yea, the 60s are calling, I suppose that point of view i
  5. Clearly because someone likes a band or singer doesn't mean they have to do everything the same as that band, that's just plain silly. But generally speaking, I would find it hard to listen to too much of an artist (frankly I would not listen to or buy Ted Nuggent's albums ever....but that's me I would never buy Kid Rock either, but that's because he is sort of a jerk and not every good as far as I am concerned). There is a reason that bands keep objecting to McCain using their material at his events, etc., and it's because they don't support him and they don't want to be associated with
  6. I have fairly low expectations of Oliver Stone, but I'm in. LouieB
  7. Well I guess the last post certainly confirmed I can't spell worth a damn.....Barack it is.... The C is silent I suppose.... Let's see.... more than one band has objected to McCain using their songs as part of campaign events, Wilco has played Obama campaign events, other musicians (Springsteen, MMJ, Andrew Bird, etc.) have done benefits for Obama; politics and bands are connected even if the fans think they aren't or shouldn't be. We had these arguments here four years ago and I figured, okay let's fan this flame one more time before it goes out completely. Politics and music ARE some
  8. I am sure you can find out if Glenn is playing with them. It is certainly not a given that he is playing if they are playing. They have to keep working even if he is not available. LouieB
  9. I know...sickening isn't it?? But we put up with plenty of crap living here, so this offsets that.... The Hungry Brain is not downtown, it is off in the middle of nowhere actually. This and the series at the Hideout and a bunch of other crazy stuff (Baker plays every week with his own group and I have never made it to one of the gigs) can keep you running and this is just the improv/jazz scene (not mentioning the Velvet Lounge...etc.) LouieB
  10. My sentiments exactly...it is time for this to be over.... LouieB
  11. The misspeaks are not unusual for most people...even Barak made some kind of dumb ones the other night..... As with four years ago, I still STILL can't figure out how Wilco fans would vote for the Republicans, but that's just me. LouieB
  12. I guess not...strangely, since it is a huge tourist destination and a really good time. Good suggestion. Always plan ahead on it though since it does tend to sell out nightly. LouieB
  13. For sure...... Nice...... Not very thrilling last night, but then again, I agree with whomever said they both look exhausted. I am. so they should be. I would love for one of them to tell the real truth which is we are SOL and the next president is going to spend a shitload of time simply trying to clear away the debris before any campaign promise can be even remotely kept. Clearly neither of them can do that (hell McCain promised a huge federal program that will cost billions and increase the size of the federal bureaucracy....), but that isn't going to happen before the election. Ev
  14. Just read the last few posts...the rest get dated pretty quickly anyway.... (submininal message.....vote Obama...) LouieB
  15. Yea, really and I posted some interesting shit over there just now.... LouieB
  16. Worst movie about the 60s EVER.... Brunch was well after Bill's time on the run; he was already a prof in education at U of I Chicago. I met Bernadine briefly too. All of this is so much BS. Bill has been a regular guy for some years and he has been a pillar of the community for a long time too. Not a terrorist and maybe he should rethink some of his time in the 60s but it is getting to be a very long time ago. Hell, most people if pushed would not have done some things in their past and certainly not been a part of bomb making, but this is now very old news and Barak was simply interfac
  17. So long Cubs and Sox..... LouieB
  18. exactly...and another reason that the Who may be the greatest band ever...... LouieB
  19. Well yea...end of thread.... LouieB
  20. I just keep thinking.....I had brunch with Bill Ayers once...I guess I can't run for President. LouieB
  21. Read my article and try something new.... Kind of Blue has had several incarnations. There is also a good book about the making of the album that is worth the time. LouieB
  22. Wikipedia does say Wyman was the first to use a fretless electric. You learn something new every day. For that reason alone he hardly sucks. Fretless bass has to be harder to play than regular electric fretted basses. LouieB
  23. This gig was such a gas....not your usual indie rock extravaganza, but a true inprovisational summit to be sure, with four master musicians sharing a stage for the sheer joy of trying to do the craziest shit imaginable. (As mentioned 2/3 of Wilco was in the house, although an Autumn Defense show did NOT break out...) The first mini-set was Fred Lonberg-Holm and Glenn. Glenn played in Fred's trio prior to Wilco so they know each other. They played two "pieces", both with Fred going nuts on cello and Glenn using his prepared snare, tom tom and an array of small percussion instruments. It
