I hightly recommend a visit to the Lorraine Motel in Memphis which is now the National Civil Rights Museum. Not only is the exhibit interesting, but you can look out over the balcony where King was shot. In the building where Ray did the shooting from also has an exhibit. LouieB
  2. Not true.... I will see you tonight then at the other party then.... LouieB
  3. I didn't see them together, but as mentioned I did she Grappelli with Diz Disley which was amazing and I saw the Tony Rice version of the Grisman group. Damn, both were a very very long time ago now it seems.... As mentioned, the Flying Fish album of the two of them together is quite good as well. It was really nice that Grappelli got to have a late career resurgence. He certainly could have disappeared altogether and died in obscurity, but fortunatly that didn't happen. (Actually as I recall I saw Jethro Burns open for Grisman...also wondeful.) LouieB
  4. Its a pain isn't it?? Glad you enjoyed him..I always do and I am hardly in his demographic... LouieB
  5. B Movie and Re-Ron are both great songs.... I would have to say Winter in America is just plain a great song..one that is less topical and also very tuneful. Although The Revolution will not be Televised is certianly one of his biggest hits, strangely the sentiment is now sort of dated, since we all know that the Revolution in fact WILL be televised.... 6. This IS a wonderful album..I have owned it for years... Grisman's take on this is less traditional than the regular Romani material that is out there, which is more folk/traditional oriented. This Grisman album is particularly good because of the presence of Tony Rice (I do believe I saw this group back in the day), but the other subsequent releases are good as well. (Wow David Grisman used to actually have dark hair.... ) LouieB
  7. Which Rosenberg is that?? Stuart??? Or probably not....but Stuart does know a thing or two about it. Frankly I am hardly an expert on this......Andrew Bird's early Bowl of Fire albums are like that a lot. I know more about Klezmer and even on that I am not that knowledgable, but there are terrific early klezmer stuf fon Yazoo. Since there is tons of Hot Club of France and Stephen Grappeli from his years when he became famous again. There is a good one Flying Fish with David Grisman...and actually most of Grisman's oevre owes a ton to that kind of jazz, (not his bluegrass albums of cours
  8. Try Lauries when you are in Chicago.... LouieB
  9. Greatest Christmas song ever.... Yea...Some Girls....crazy....I also have Her Satanic Magesties Request with the crazy cover.. actually I bought it as a cut out for like a buck or two. Amazingly 78s even from the accoustic era are fairly easy to come by. They are very cool though and find yourself a turntable with 78 on it for the best sound of any recording ever (well maybe not...) The rare ones are worth a ton of money, the common ones like dance music or marches aren't that hard to find. I don't collect them much, but they are fun. (I found a 78 copy of the Carter Family doing No De
  10. What a sneaky fuck he is... I have a single of his Christmas song...it is fun. LouieB
  11. I did the same thing with the singles. I taped them. Pere Ubu is a total freak out to almost everyone. I read about this set in the Reader when it came out and made a point of picking it up in Cleveland (where the band and I are from for no other reason than to say I got it there...doesn't make it worth anymore.) Most of the LPs are back in print as reissues I think. The box set is extremely cool and has some great stuff on it. Since some of the middle period LPs that are on the box set were on Chrysalis, they can be found. The Modern Dance I have is on Blank Records. I have no real id
  12. You should expect a good time. Rhett is very fun to see. LouieB
  13. I have a copy of this as well. It was pressed in the 90s in limited release (2000). They are not the original singles (now THOSE would be rare.) I have copy 1147 which I bought in Cleveland Heights at Record Revolution. What number did you get? They are VERY cool. I have some of the original vinyl releases of the albums too, Modern Dance particularly, which has been reissued on vinyl. The later ones are fairly common. OH another rarity I have is a sort of "beat" copy of Jack Kerouac's album with Steve Allen. LouieB
  14. Yup...see it can't be that rare. Frankly I don't know how rare most vinyl is. Most records, even the Velvet Underground albums, were made by the thousands, tens of thousands probably. Albums that appeared to be rare at one time now show up in stores with some regularity, since more people are parting with them. LouieB
  15. I have a solo record by Zal Yanovsky of the Lovin Spoonful on KamaSutra records. It may not be worth all that much (pretty beat up and was 99 cents when I bought it) but I have never seen it since. I also have Garland Jeffery's first album on Atlantic (two copies actually) and his original album with Grinderswitch. LouieB
  16. I would be happy to volunteer.....I have tons of personality....someone let them know I am available okay??? LouieB
  17. I have no clue why this is out of print....I mean it is a Jim Jarmich film after all, not exactly an unknown director. I remember when it was released in the theater (I had a PR postcard tacked to my cubical...) but I never got around to seeing it on DVD. Buying one for $40 isn't something I need. Actually I have never seen Rust Never Sleeps either. Live at Massey Hall is such a mess however and Heart of Gold is so great. I guess few musicians have been filmed as much as Neil. LouieB
  18. Buy March.....and be done with it. LouieB
  19. Actually that would be Kenilworth, but close....and the purple line just makes it into Wilmette at that. The Metra would be the best bet (and far faster) from downtown, since it goes to Winnetka I do believe. LouieB
  20. How do you see it?? it is not available through netflix. LouieB
  21. I guess. I keep feeling like the same half dozen bands get discussed over and over again ad nauseum. I mean really if you want to know what albums to get, maybe do research somewhere else. I mean the fact is that there are a handful of top albums for any one artist (I mean telling people about the Dead Man soundtrack by Neil on a where to start thread is totally pointless...) and it is pretty easy to figure out what they are by reading Wikipedia and checking on Amazon for those people like the best. I do this all the time myself for less well known artists and then I actually buy something f
