I like U2, but is there any real reason for a 20 year old album being reissued? It isn't like it was out of print or anything. LouieB

I read this one too and it is spot on. Cleary this exhibit isn't lighting any fires either here or with people in general, but it is free for the next month. Even the videos are lackluster including a large instilation with some footage of Morrissey. LouieB

Indie rock is dead, long live indie rock.... LouieB

Yea, me too.... The only one that gets everyone freaked is Dylan and the Band in 1974. I guess I could throw in Neil Young on the Time Fades Away tour. George Harrison with Ravi Shakar Bruce Springsteen when Born to Run came out Emmylou Harris when Peices of the Sky came out. I have seen a wide variety of jazz, blues and folk musicians that probably no one is too impressed with (although I freaked out a member of Bobby Bare Jr.'s band by telling him I had seen Hound Dog Taylor a couple times...) who would woody guthrie vote for president in 2008?
LouieB replied to random painted highway's topic in Tongue-Tied Lightning
Actually both would vote for Jesus Christ I think.... LouieB -
The Museum of Contemporary Art here in Chicago has this exhibit going on. Brother Ray and I checked it out today (he had to go for school). It was interesting enough (and free for the next few weeks) but nothing earth shattering. Check out the music list. Not bad, but nothing by either Jon Langford or Tony Fitzpatrick strangely enough. It depends on what you want to see. Are you interested in ethnic or hip stuff? For hip stuff see Wicker Park, Lakeview along Southport, boystown on Halstead, Andersonville, Lincoln Square, River North. If you want ethnic stuff see Devon Avenue, Pilsen, Chinatown, and othe places I just can't think of at the moment. Check out the Reader for stuff to do. LouieB

Kelly Clarkson...and John (fucking) McClaughlin
LouieB replied to So Long's topic in Someone Else's Song
That was going to be my question. I assume this is someone we don't know since it is spelled differently. LouieB -
Do we really need this?? LouieB

Kinda small list isn't it? LouieB

Jay Bennett is under-appreciated.... (He plays on Bob Egan's solo disk......whatever...) LouieB

St. Dominicks Preview is one of my all time favorite albums. The country album...well not so great but okay. (I found a vinyl copy at Pitchfork actually.) LouieB

Yea I have. I gave the thing several listens, but compared to many of the other post prison albums it just doesn't do it for me. It isn't terrible, none of his albums are, I just like the others better. LouieB

Underrated? By whom?? The last thing in the world I would call Van Morrison is under rated. He has put out records since the mid-60s and has never NOT had a record contract. He is not exactly a cult artist. And if anything his record companies have let him put out anything he feels like for years. LouieB

There are several albums actually... LouieB

yea, the goo on it isn't very... This was a worthy experiment (apparently Del and Steve didn't exactly get along once they tried going on tour, between lifestyle and politics I am sure it got a bit tense at times), but compared to all the really fine bluegrass out there, it just didn't make it. Some bands that I want to (maybe) introduce you to
LouieB replied to PopTodd's topic in Someone Else's Song
Green is one of the great unappreciated Chicago bands. I am amazed he is still plugging away. I have a couple of his/their albums and saw them once at Phyllis' Musical Inn on Division. LouieB -
Big fan!! LouieB

I know everyone is entitled to their opinion (I liked City of Immigrants), but the one thing I think we all can agree about is I Feel Alright is one of the greatest albums ever. Frankly if there is a really weak album in Earle's catalogue it is The Mountain. The Del McCoury band is great, but the songs are some of his weakest and the way he sings doesn't fit in that well. Want the number?? If you sing I will listen (at least for awhile...) Lola is an okay song, just kinda tired of it. Luckily there are plenty of other songs in their catalogue..... LouieB
